Possibly not a best first bike, quite powerfull, thirsty they are really a race bike with lights. plenty of people have had them as first bikes. I personally think a GN250 of fxr 150 is a better first bike. parts are cheap and available , they dont mind being ridden slowly and dont require much maintence. TZR250 requires quite a bit more maintence , uses expensive 2 stroke oil , and not super rider friendly

I think the later vtwin ones were more reliable and faster, had usd forks etc. always wanted to take one for a blat.

Early reverse cyl ones i read had engine issues if i recall correctly.

bound to be an uber expert on here who will have the answers.

The V-twins PONTENTIALLY had more power, but quite frankly are a bitch to de restrict. As a result, the majority are limited to 180 and 45 hp. They are however the sexiest of all two fiddies.

Oh yeah. They're made by Yamaha

not a learners bike.

i have a TDR which has the first TZR engine in it(known as the 1KT)it puts out 50HP and has been timed at 200km/h(on a racetrack of course)

the TZR series are high performance machines, which when set up properly will handle and perform way better than a so called"modern"250 of the four stroke variety. In fact they will show many larger machines a clean pair of heels, especially when the going gets twisty.

Aaron Slight started his road racing career on one,so did Andrew Stroud, and quite a few others i could name.

my advice, for what it is worth.get a less high performance bike to learn on,and work UP to the TZR.:calm:

Naw she will be much better off with a nice smooth vtwin. She can learn about RIDING on that, rather then learn to put up with its two-stroke silly antics.

V Twin TZ250GP parts are a straight bolt on though, 80hp 250 anybody?

Of course you will have to rebuild it every few hundred km

well we did some digging and got a whole lot of info on them, and she decided to do it. Shes been on the back of bikes her whole life, and ridden a few, this is her first road bike of her own.
Got a workshop manual and told her she has to read it, no riding till she has, so thats what shes doing!! pick the toy up this afternoon. Might be really good for her actually, shell have to learnb about maintenance, and do it herself, I told her she aint paying a mechanic to do it, and I aint helping her until shes REALLY stuck, which is fine by her, she real keen to learn anyway.
And another plus is that I can take the thing out and fuckin rape it whenever I want too hehehehehehehehehe
Thanks for the advice people!!

Great bikes they are, i love them :D. Youll never regret buying one(expect for all the usual 2smoka maintenance you have to do). As mentioned above and i agree a 100% with, they are the nicest looking 250 sportsbike out :2thumbsup

I got a 92 TZR and its the SP version so alot more goodies ;).

What model you looking at getting?? Hope you enjoy it if you get it!
