Doing a reed valve?

So have acquired a 2 stroke as per the lady's wishes, and shes been told she has to learn to maintain it properly. So, wondering if anyone has, or can provide a link to, a decent description/method of how to do it. Needs to be something a beginner can follow. Shes a little mechanically minded, but just learning, so maybe something with photos.

Have already tried google, and bike specific forums, but couldnt find anything, any help will be gratefully received!

Sorry are you talking about inspecting and changing the reeds?

Remove the tank, remove the carb, good oportunity to give it a clean, behind that in the engine will be the reed block. Remove and inspect and probally replace, then reasemble.

sweet, so the reed valve is between the carberator and the cylinder then? (sort of) will the "reed block be obvious when I have the carb off, or do I undo something to pull it out?

How much should I expect to pay for reed valves if they need replacing?

Is there something wrong withthe bike or are you just looking for something to do? If you reasemble them wrong or have an air leak the bike will run badly or seize. There are plenty of other things to check that dont involve spreading the bike round the shed

No nothing wrong with it, shes just trying to get info so she knows whats going on when shes riding etc (wish more poeple did!!)
Shes just researching and getting info on different things that may need to be done at various times, so she has the knowledge. A friend has an old fucked 2 stroke engine laying around, might give it to her to rip apart and actually physically see whats happening when the thing is going.
Found a whole heap of info for her on the web, so she understands reed valves now!!
Suppose I should set her up with a kiwibiker profile too. . . . .
