I was reading a while ago that Ducati was experimenting with electronics that varied in each location around the track. But what the article didn't say was if it was the throttle partially changing position by location, or if it was varying ignition mapping by location, i.e full power on straights, a lot less for a wet off camber corner... Anyone know anything more about this?

If they really are using GPS for that, it'd be pretty crude, as in "use this engine map when we're in this space box, and this other one when we're in that", etc.

I suppose it could work, but you'd have issues with the precise transition points. It strikes me as an idea that would have very many devils in the details and would probably fail in the end due to inherent shortcomings of the technology.

Anyhoo, nobody except the development engineers involved will know the exact details, so I don't think you'll get anything useful in this thread.

I wasn't talking about exact details, I was just asking if anyone knows it if is throttle controll or ignition maps... Different maps for different "space box's" doesn't seem too crude to me.

Yea that tells me a bit. I thought it's quite funny they went to the team with the bike which had a major downfall in traction controll (amoung other things) though (Kawasaki) lol. Interesting reading on all the sensors, aye

they genrally use a [not sure about exact name of said device] ground transmitter to increase the accuracy to a few centimetres...

Was all a bit fluffy, apart from two relevant points from Suzuki (I think?):

- they're using radio transmitters around the track with a receiver on the bike that triangulates from them, rather than a GPS based system,

- inertial data isn't used to extrapolate track position. Which doesn't surprise me. Been there, watched the failures to integrate accelerometers and GPS receivers, bought the T-shirt, etc.
