View Full Version : I'm on the market for a scuffed 1000

I've long wanted to upgrade because my VFR is falling apart. The next warrant will be hard to obtain, and I need another vehicle to get me around in style.

I'm probably going to get finance again (go on, be a voice of reason) and I don't want to spend a hell of a lot on something flash looking. I crash all the time and I want to have my own paintjob on it anyway.

Looking through trademe, everything is "well looked after" and "immaculate condition" so is priced accordingly. Bugger that. I want a 1000 with scuffs, cracks, all that, and priced accordingly. Mechanically sound though with low k's, I don't want another lemon.

So, are there any bikes lurking in people's garages that are a little bit worse for wear cosmetically? How would I contact insurance companies about their wrecks? I am looking at the Star Insurance auctions and have made a habit of going to Turners on my day off so I'm not being completely lazy and hoping everyone will have the answer for me on here.

Simple mathmatics dictates he will crash 2.5 times as much on a 1000.

Umm, I think you're on the right track. Maybe PM Frosty to keep his eyes open and ring all the local dealers and ask them to keep an eye out on their trade-ins.

Hey Coyote, a bigger and heavier 1000cc bike may change your stlye of riding, hopefully for the better.

You take care out there. Good luck with your search!

Check out HungusMaximus' 929.

I will never forgive ye though, unless you replace your viffer with a RC30.

No offense taken. I take the piss out of myself more than others

My falls have happened because I'm an airhead, and my crashes I've learnt from. Ironically my last crash was from going slowly and enjoying the scenery.

Plus my bike's have never really been in very good, or safe condition

Oh gosh. I'm in for a world of hurt aren't I?

Cheers. I'll PM him when I get a moment.

Moving to the VFR from my old RG150 definitely made me a smoother rider. The 150 encouraged being erratic with your weight shifting. My last ride on it was intense, I'll forever remember it.

I didn't say I was getting rid of the VFR. I've poured so much money into it, it'd be silly selling it cause I won't be able to get much for it.

I want a project bike, and the VFR is very much a project bike now. Just I can't do much to it as I'm relying on it as a road bike.
