Hello,

I'm looking for some larger/comfort/touring grips for my new bike.

After an hour of riding in the twisties my right hand is very sore, as I'm sure the diameter of the grip is just a bit too small for my hands. I'm not gripping tightly or putting excess weight on the bars though.

So something slightly larger, and maybe with some extra vibe damping would be great, although vibes arent too bad.

I've seen a few accessories on US websites, but wanted to know if anyone had some ideas to get some here in NZ. I'm not after any heated grips, never seemed to have had cold hands, even in a UK winter. Must have a cold heart as they say!

Thanks

I put heated grips on my bike, and they are certainly much fatter and easier to ride with. Much easier on the hands as you say.

Oxford do some wrap-around heated grips that would fatten things up a bit.

I just use the standard Oxford heated grips on my Versys (wasn't sure about those wrap-around ones as I thought they may come loose) and they are great, makes the grip a bit wider and the rubber is pretty soft :)

Thanks for replies,

I was going to just get some heated grips today, but saw some fat looking rally gel grips in the store for $15. So thought I'd give them a try.

Just fitted them with some WD40 and my nextdoor neighbours hairspray, bless her. Hope I can get them off though if need be, it was extra firm long lasting hold!

I'll go for a long ride tomorrow and test the new grips out

my FJ had small grips also ,... i found some ATV gel grips (ProGrips) for 1 inch bars ( both grips are the same size on those) boiled them up in a pot of water and slipped them right over the stock grips ..

worked a treat

heated grips are the bomb, they do more than just keep your fingers warm. When its a shitty cold day you can sorta feel the warmth creeping up your arms!.I once rode from welly to tauranga in rain .It was snowing on the desert road.I did have good gear and wind blast protection(BMW K100 RS) but i was warm and comfortable the whole way. When i stopped in Turangi for petrol the front of my fairing had about 50 mm snow built up on it!But i was warm the whole way.I was very tentative on the snow but it had just started falling,i didnt have one little slip .I think the relative narrow/triangular profile of the tryes cut through. The desert road was closed later.
