well sounds good - we will do the works then, wet your lips in anticipation - and bring clean undies!
I will get the map and details up tommorrow sometime after tech, and I pick my bike up - I'll have a chat to ant about it and see what he says, I think I will take a loop that way we can do all the decent roads, including a zip on the Kai-Iwi roads for a bit before heading back - I'll go check for road works to so there will be no surprises.

Hehehehe yes we must......... I had a blast from Mercer to just over the harbour bridge...... dodging all the cages coming down from puke, etc:ar15:
Also managed to play with an 05 green ZX-6R and a guy on a white and red off-road bike.
It was great fun playing Ghost Rider.......Now before you "old people" start with your warnings remember I've done a bit of riding in Indian traffic.............
Anyway........ where are we Aucky's meeting??

Just had a look at the route and I'm really keen to avoid as much of SH1 as possible. I'm quite keen to follow the route that RIB used a few weekends ago. It looks like if we start at 10am then we would get to Kai-iwi at 2ish, giving us Auck's a chance to get back at a reasonable time.
But I'm not leading the ride and will just as happily follow whatever everyone is doing. Just a suggestion :niceone:
Also who from Auck is coming, where doya want to meet and what time ? How long does it take to get to Wellsford from say Westgate ?
I'm probably going to bring a non-KB member along as well.
John
7th March 2005, 20:57
OK, I have a better route idea, will update within the hour.
John
7th March 2005, 21:42
Ok try this route on for size - I tried to cut the time required down.. We could met in the well earlier if you are abit worried about time.

What time is best???Even the slow riders should be able to do the Old North Rd/Peak Rd/KKK-Wellsford route in under an hour. As long as you get your asses down the road by 9am you'll make Wellsford by 10am easy. Fu*ken luxaries. If I had to get to The Pap Autobarn by 10am, I would have to leave here by 7am:finger:

Have the actuall book and am pretty good at reading it.
Can't get that site to work right for some reason. I'll figure it out somehow. Wellsford doesn't look that big a town (no offense:niceone: ) so I could just ride around looking for a big group of bikers then join and ask if it's you guys, if not I keep looking
EDIT Also depends on if I can get my work to correct the typo on my time sheet. Worked 7.5 hours on tuesday and they had me down for .75 so my check is $100 off.

Might come if I have "Rox" back and everything is set for a ride to Taupo Sun. If Not then I've got the Whangarei - Wellington dash to make on Mon (so the start of my next SI trip:niceone:).

Well once you hit the 50kmph zone comming into wellsford its about 2mins travelling in through, there is also a tourist stop area which is normally populated by a bus or somthing.
but you wont miss us - we will be parked opposite the police station near the caltex, which is a place called the well, its a Long John Silver, a Mac Donalds, and Caltex in one, its a large white building on the left of the road, its is a small hole of a place lucky thats one place i didnt live long lol, but yes - if your keen mate would be great to see ya

Think a SI tour is long? If I was still in the states now I would be preparing for two rides. Dallas, TX to Daytona, FL for Bike Week or Dallas to Sturgis, South Dakota For Stugis Rally. Fun rides both of them though I prefer the STurgis run, Daytona is to flat and straight. But yea be glad to meet ya if you're on for Saturday and if not then when you come through here on your way to wellywood feel free to stop by, live about a 5 min walk from cambridge road when you go through.

A little over 450km today and i am getting quicker by the day so that is a good think. Sorry we didn't come back AD but we thought 7 people there were enough, glad to head you aint to bad.
Rider of the day (well in my opinion) was Mini_me on the zxr250. Man awsome job ringing t's nuts off but he stayed on my ass and then some.

Well great day guys!.
We all managed to get to the well in wellsford and have a wee chat and get to know fellow members - great selection of bikes and skill levels great to see the enthusiasm of everyone to get the job done, great work really impressed!
We headed out of the well and stopped at the tearooms to regroup (sorry I went so far ahead but I was worried someone might head up the brenderwyns) so after a regroup we antallica lead the way to the roads where the fun started for everyone.
It was everyone for themselves at this point and everyone was pushing their machines to their limits - huh aff?
Great to see so many different skill levels running up front and keeping the riding good!.
Me ant and various others traveled at the back of the pack including a amazing piece of machinary that hadnt had its 1000k service? (zx6r) and we had a fairly decent pace - following behind ant (two up!) got stuck behind abit of traffic which seperated us from the pack, but it was still great.
Then sadly a rider went down (he will fill in the details) but it was an unfortunate event, but no major injuries where incurred.
We saw the crashed rider on the side of the road, and no one knew if he was ours then we clicked it was, everyone quickly turned around (I got to eager to turn around and dropped mine in the grass, so I'm offically nana of the day). And we headed up to fish him out of the drain, it was abit of an effort but we managed to get him out, and then we couldnt find any rescue but thankfully the young fellow (sorry forgot your name!!) on a CBRR250 saved us by getting a truck in and picking the rider and his bike up, I told him he had to join the forum and he will be around anytime, hes a legend!.
Some (c4. and such hadto head home, so thanks for staying and lending a hand appricated!) while me and antallica headed back to catch up with the rest of the group, abit more cautious than before, but we quickly ended up blatting the crap out of our bikes.
When we caught up with the rest (who patiently waited thanks!) they decided to head up mangawai heads fair enough hope it was great! :wari:
While ant jess and I headed for dargaville for the last leg, where I hadto show a MR2 whos king ! that was fun, average speed of about 170/160 trying to get past him on the corners, I did get him in the end which was great :done: 1 point bikers :wari:
Anyways - here are some pictures, Hope others got more - because we werent with the pack very long because of the incident so hope more pictures were taken !
Well I'm not gunna try name them, I'm way to drunk for that - so just point yourself out :niceone:
Hope to hear some tails from the other pack!
Great day, and thanks to everyone for having a great time and building your skills, and aff stop scaring little girls with your bike thankyou! :yeah:

yes, a good day had by all (until the bin that is)
us aucklanderz got underway from westgate without to much fuss in the morning. After a short winter blast down Old North Road and me feeling much more confident in my newly scrubbed in tire CK lead the pack down HW 16 all the way to wellsford where we stopped to get some muchly needed fuel and a break. We set off from wellsford at about 1030 - read johns post if ur really interested in our short jaunt up the main highway.
once we has passed paparoa aff and me took off together to stretch our legs, we where joined shortly by CK and roo (dude on the r6) which led to some quick riding thru to oakleigh where we stopped to let the others catch up, after waiting for a while we where joined by mono (new zx6r) who told us of the bin(AD's story to tell), after a short discussion it was decided that we would head on to maungatapere(sp?) and await the others there. We spent the better part of and hour sitting around waiting for them to turn up when we were joined by justsomeguy. so we had another discussion in favor of returning to auckland via mangawhai heads and just as we where setting off Ant, Jess and John turned up (have no idea where the other 5 or so people dissappeared to) so another great ride back to auckland in which the only thing of mention was when CK's right? mirror decided the road was a better place lie, it's theory was quickly disproven with the rear tire of the r6. I had an excellent day.
a big ups to John and Ant who organised the whole thing and made is possible.
and john, dude! that is one tidy tidy zxr you got there, great wee bikes can keep up with some of the bigger toys.

One hellava good day, big ups to the organisers :niceone:
Loved the paparoa to oakleigh road - I've never ridden that route before, at last I have another road to cut down the painful SH1 rides to Whangarei. (Even the wellsford->mangawhai->waipu->whangarei route has too much SH1 pain in it)
After the others (well... three of the others - where did the rest go?) hooked up with us again (post crash) at maungatapere, we split again in order to get back to auckland for the joe satriani gig.
A wix ride back down the okara valley was followed by pain and cop paranoia down to waipu whereupon the demons were let loose again through to managwhai. Mono
opened his ZX-636 up a couple of times and man... it is going to FLY when he lets it loose! Rain/Drizzle marred the run from mangawhai to wellsford but the warm road soon dried and the natural order of things was restored... On the turnoff to Peak road (after Kaukapakapa?) we did the r6 vs the 636 (only going to 11k
rpm (apparently...)) thing and oh dear... my precious baby has been subdued... I'm thinking NoS now ... :shit:
re. the ck mirror incident [insert ck quote] "It came loose so I tightened it up by hand... it came loose again so I thought 'Skrew it, she'll be okay'..."
Hur hur... mebbe not then...
It was funny somehow, quite apart from my unsuccessfully dodging the little bastard and subsequently blasting mono's (oscar) brand shiny new baby with glass and debris. At least no major damage was done (cept to the wayward mirror).
Anyways... more pics from mono's camera, and look out for a couple of upcoming rides - A big ride that mono's been badgering about - down coromandal way then inland... that ends at the puke trackday, and most definitely my favorite piece of road - the Old Russell Road (think the mangawhai->langs beach gorge, but 46Kms
long and no traffic).

But if ever you doing that road again give me a call. As to the ride back there was a little to much of one as you said but will have to investigate roadage i the area. Man i would hate to think about what oscar could do when he has run the thing in....... first thing would be to get a steering dampner hahahahaha.

Right, guess it's my turn now...
Left Hamilton at about 7:00am for a rather chilly and somewhat decent ride up north. What can I say about SH1 south of Auckland except lots of construction that seems pointless to me. (why move a road 10 metres to the side when what is there now is perfectly fine?) Hit the Papakura Autobahn and decided to slow my speed from 130 to 100Km/h just incase Spud and his boys were hangin about.:Police: Well turns out that one of them was though I doubt she was anyone spud knows. Anyway I get pulled over and take my helmet and sunnies off and hand her my license and passport (learned my lesson from my Welly run) and ask her why she pulled me over. Her words as she walked back to her car and I quote "I havn't figured that out yet." What the fuck?!? Ends up being a breach of license conditions by not wearing my prescription glasses. Knew I shouldn't have worn my glasses when I last went to get my license renewed back in the states 3 years ago.:brick: :brick: I tell her that yes I am my sunglasses are prescription and that for the $600NZD I paid for them I made damn sure they were. She didn't believe me so I am stuck with a $400 fine. Ohwell still looking forward to a good day of riding. I head out of Aucks and fill up at the BP that you hit after leaving. Later down the road I see a sign that says "Alturnate route (via Wellsford)" I turn that way wich ends up being a longer route but more fun. (ie. curves and hills) Arrive at The Well about 15 minutes early and a couple of guys are already there I ask if they are with Kiwi Biker. No they are not and are pretty rude about it too so I walk off not wanting to bug them anymore. Get some fod at McD's and walk around to the Caltex where a few KBers are fueling up so I grab my bike and move around and park with them. Met everyone and showed a few of them why cruisers are better than crotch rockets.:2thumbsup Every thing goes smoothly and I show everyone once again not to under estimate a cruiser by cornering just as hard as they do. On aa straight rode I started weaving back and forth in the lane getting the pegs pretty close to the ground apparently.:niceone: :2thumbsup The faster guys take off and disapear and I follow some of the mid speed guys for a bit. Got ahead of some of them and was followin Justsomeguy havin a blast takin corners at roughly 90 - 120. Then it happens, we come up on these cagers. JSG passes them on a straight I think he said he was doin about 130 when he passed them. I try to pass them at the same time but the straight bit wasn't long enough so I back off for a bit. We get to another straight bit and I try passing them again. Guy in front cage speeds up when he sees me comin up to pass. I should have backed off but I just gave it more gas as we start to go up a slight hill. Road turned just on the other side of the hill with loose gravel from side streets on both sides. Well shit looks like I'm goin down. I aim for the grass and get ready for it. Bike tilted and I slide away from it (taking out a wasps nest as I saw it where I landed later) I get up and pull the grass off myself then look at the bike. I get up and walk over to it noticing that my speedo and tacho are smashed as well as my head light and one mirror and signal light. Frame is fine, forks are fine, tires and rims are fine. Others pass me up and I try picking the bike up and notice smoke. Heat from my engine and pipes is trying to ignite the grass so I fight harder to get it up. I get it on two wheels and start pulling grass off of it. The others have turned around now and help me push it out of the ditch. Get it out and look at other bits.
(just noticed this is getting long so the rest will follow shortly.)

Ok so we look at the bike and everything and Gavin calls his dad to orginize a pick up (heaps of thanks for that mate:niceone: ) and we wait me having a bit of a cussing fit every few seconds. Find my phone back in the grass and get my mom to call me. She is more upset that I didn't do a few things before I left than at the fact that I wrecked. Sit and talk for a bit and all that then Gavin's dad shows up. (having trouble remembering this as I sit here drinking:apint: ) Anyway we get the bike loaded and head off. Take it to Whangarei and I try to orginize a way to get back home. Long story short no good calling my mom or sister. So I planed to take the bus today. Would have goten on the one saturday but my sister and mom took to long too tell me they can't come get me. Well anyway I end up having to stay up there over night and would have gotten a hotel or something but Gavin's dad (damn I wish I could remember his name:brick: ) offerd to let me stay there. Still really thankfull for that (even though I ended up crashing somewhere else {crash in this instance means sleeping not sure if the term is used here but it is in the states}) He also worked it out so that my bike will be shipped down and I don't have to worry about anything. Big UPS to him for that. Gavin and I go out later and get a bit drunk, had lots of fun but didn't go with him to town as my head was really starting to hurt. (after affects from the wreck I think) woke up at 10 and get back with Gavin and take a nap till 1 when I get up and am takin to the bus pick up. Start worrying about whether I can buy a ticket from the bus or if I have to go to the depot to get one. Bus shows up (really a Hiace minibus) and it turns out that my reservation for a ticket has already been takin care of all I have to do is pay. Thanks again to the helpfulls, kinda wonder how I would have gotten through the weekend without them, I doubt I could have though others would have helped and did. Anyway 5 hour ride in the minibus and I am home drinking again and posting this. Also turns out my mom has calmed down and offered to loan me the money to get the bike fixed with aftermarket parts that I like better than what was there even though I have always thought my bike was great. Have to pay her back but atleast I don't have to worrie about it now. Still had a great weekend and thanks to all those that offered help and for orginizing the ride. Sorry to put a small blemish on such a great day.:niceone: Oh and those pictures that were taken of the damage to me and my bike can be posted on here if you want to do it.

Considering what happened later I suppose this is the least of your worries, but if you can't get off this ticket by writing a letter (including optician's receipt or statement if possible), then there is no justice...
I am appalled to think that you were given a ticket for this... I ride everyday with my prescription dark glasses or contacts and it has never once occurred to me that a traffic officer would not believe that I was fulfilling the requirements of my licence. You must fight it.

Fighting the ticket would probably only cost more so hell with it. Doesn't look as bad as it did in person aye John. Should ad that my shoulder has some lumpy bits but thats only buised muscles that have swelled up. Gonna take some pics of my jacket and jeans here either in a few mins or tomorrow and post them. Wrangler jeans holds up prety well and for a cheap jacket it did pretty good to though if the sleeves fit tighter then I wouldn't have any scratches. Ohwell just another reason to get the proper gear. Have to do the ride again sometime so I can finnish it and conquer that damn corner.

Should take about 20 mins of your time and a 40c stamp. If you need assistance in writing it just ask MikeL.

Hey alucard, I'm real sorry to hear about your accident. I know exactly how you felt yesterday cos it happened to me last year on a KB ride...except I wrote my bike off! There's a thread somewhere here that details it, you may have read about it? What a day-spoiler those bins are huh.
Anyway, hope the recovery of both you and bike is speedy. :niceone:

It shouldn't be that difficult to get off that ticket dude, don't give up too easily. Take the sunnies to a local optometrist, they can measure the lenses on site and fill out a prescription form with the current daiopter for those lenses. Shouldn't cost more than $30, but some places will do it free. Send that in with a letter explaining the reason why you think the ticket should be dropped.
I'm sure $30 and some your time will be cheaper than $400!
PS - Does it carry any demerit points? If so, then it would _definately_ be worth chasing up.

Ok you peaple talked me into it I'll do it tomorrow. Don't think I have any demerit points as I don't have an NZ license yet. Just looked at the ticket and it doesn't say so I don't think I have demerit points for it.

But hey......... atleast you've lived to tell your story:niceone: Good on you mate for not losing your cool and keeping it all together......
As soon as you get your bike sorted we'll organise a celebratory ride :2thumbsup

Yea mate if the gravel wasn't there it wouldn't have been a problem. Not to worried still and by the way anybody know where I can get some custom pipes? Wanna get a 2-4 set up so I can have 2 pipes on either side of the bike, I know how it can be done just not how to do it. Gonna take the bike out to a couple of custom shops I know of in Hamilton and see what they say about what I want to get done. Stuff should be sorted soon hopefully.:2thumbsup

There is a place called custom chambers in auckers that does custom m/c pipes but they are pretty expensive. re. the ck mirror incident [insert ck quote] "It came loose so I tightened it up by hand... it came loose again so I thought 'Skrew it, she'll be okay'..."
Hur hur... mebbe not then...
It was funny somehow, quite apart from my unsuccessfully dodging the little bastard and subsequently blasting mono's (oscar) brand shiny new baby with glass and debris. At least no major damage was done (cept to the wayward mirror).
yup. Bugger!
Felt like a bit of a twit for not puilling over and sorting it out, especially when I saw how much play it had. Sorry for the impromptu lesson in debris avoidance fellas! Hope there wasn't any damage found when the bikes got home.
Good ride all round but definitely sorry to hear about AD's ticket on top of his crash. Mate, if you got the glasses from an optometrist, they'll have it on record and you should just be able to send in a copy of that with your politely worded letter. $400 for that is bloody mad anyway!
I did notice you sunning yourself proudly with the crusier on its centre stand! Looked remarkably comfortable too!

Hehe yea mate, looks cool aye. That's why I will always own some kind of cruiser with the sissy bar. Been known to take naps like that too it's that comfy. Might let y'all try it sometime once I can actually get the centre stand down again.

Hi AD, don't know if it helps, but on my way back down '16', I came accross a member of the trump ride, down worse, with tow truck in attendance, and only 2 mates hanging.
He looked very sad.
Wouldn't be suprised if there hadn't been a few more bins that fine day!

Well been looking online and I found the exact speedo I want for about $700 in US dollars. Gonna go into H.D.Cycles sometime this week and see what they say about it and if they can wire it up along with my new headlight when I find one and turn signals (possibly gonna be built into the mirrors, though I might have to build that part of it myself)
Here is the Speedo/Tach.Gonna email them to make sure I can get one that reads K's else I'll have to get a converter aswell.
Maybe I should start my own thread but I don't know if ill be able to get the stuff i'm lookin at yet.
(edit) stupid link didn't show what it was suposed to so here is the pic.

Dude you should be able to wire it unless you need digital inputs , if it somes with an a/d converter it should be easy as. As for the other mods i know i am in dorkland but if you need a hand give me a yell i might find some reason to ride into the hole :shake: :shake:
