I'm subjected to breakfast TV at the moment while spending some quality time on the couch and saw this.

Paul isn't too bad, he's a bit like a splash of cold water: sometimes it's refreshing sometimes it's unpleasant. At least he's got a brain unlike some of the other talking heads.
As for Pippa she's one of the reasons I don't watch morning TV: prissy, self righteous, sanctimonious princess.

I just tune out and look. Besides it's a minor reason compared to the absolute shit smudge of a program that follows breakfast on TV1.
Maybe the government should put a mandate that only intelligent programs are shown during the working day. It'll force all the DPB and dole bludgers off the couch and they might get a job.......

Not surprising given the demographic. I'll pop over to feminists.co.nz and see how their poll is going.

TVNZ won't get rid of him ... he's a "ratings" puller.

I agree ... theres too many soft cocks in this country!

That woman had a mo. Plain and simple, it stuck out like dogs balls. She obviously is comfortable with her appearance or she would do something about it.
Paul Henry only started on it after people e-mailed him. Refreshingly un PC item on TV. Wonder what the official fall out will be?

She is quite nice, but I'm a bit of an Ali Mau fan...anyone see the other morning in her horse-ridey gear...jodphurs..mmmm.
Ahem. Anyway, back on topic, Mr Henry is a top wind-up merchant we need more people prepared to say what everyone is thinking and not just on TV. But the question is: Paul, you work in the news-y area at TVNZ, how in the name of dog have you not noticed the mo on Fran "labour party spokesman" Mold?

Wellingtonians' stand proud of your Mayor this morning.
PH attempted to railroad her on "how much the council was getting from the leaky home owner" who lost a court case.
Luckily Kerry kept coming back with the facts (cash offer of settlement, etc) and attempted to do what tvnz media fail to do... get the facts out to the public and then let them make up their own minds.
NZ Government: PLEASE sell off tvnz!

I didnt watch this particular thingy, but I've seen him on other stuff, and IMO he's a bit of a dimwit, well, a bit of a twat really so I avoid watching him and on threads like this call him names like dimwit and twat.

He is astoundingly ignorant.
For example, one of his frequent assertions is that should you need to see in a darkened area you would need a "pith helmet"
He obviously doesn't know what a pith helmet is.

Whilst I wasn't offended by it, I just find Henry a mouth piece with little substance. His recent reporting on the older generation bikers was just a lot of yapping and the real point was missed. But maybe that's what Nzers are all about, taking the piss and drivel. My view, he's a Paul Holmes wannabe who also struggles to make 5'.
However if you are a woman and present yourself on TV with a mustache, don't be surprised when it draws quips from the likes of Henry (in lieu of intelligent comment). But then I'm sure she wasn't surprised...

I dont mind him, I think he can be quite funny and entertaining but I also think some times he goes a bit to far with his comments and I end up cringing. Yea he is arrogant, but he isnt afraid to of looking like a dick on TV either. If you dont like him dont watch it I suppose, you have the choice! I think hes just one of those people that you either like or hate.

I inferred (perhaps incorrectly) that the OP was confined to the couch at present and was just commenting on what a cock this particular "presenter" is.
I agree with that statement, and with yours.
I have a garage full of projects and a lot of reading to do, but I do watch TV a bit as well.

They're nothing to be afraid of. They're mostly just ugly woman who are angry at men because nobody wants to have sex with them, let alone date them. Out of desperation, they often have to turn lesbian just to get some action.
They're quite harmless, unless of course they get into politics.

Typical dimwit Henry approach - If you don't understand the subject in question (which for him is most things) then move onto something that his IQ can navigate.
Typical infotainment fluff as per most TV content presently just catering for the dim masses :stupid:

Paul Henry is basically an over opinionated bully. He is a classic case - "I was bullied as a kid so now its payback time".
He gets his rocks off by publicly humiliating his work colleagues, guests, friends and anyone else in reach. That is emotional bullying and what is always interesting is how little of it he can take in return. Watch him turn "dark" when he get some of his own medicine.
Imagine working with the guy. They cringe constantly and visibly because they know where the boundaries are like most decent people.
Clever as an entertainer he maybe ...but he can not help being a giggling knob of dubious sexuality. Something he has not allowed himself to acknowledge yet despite his massive ego.
He would not even rate in international broadcasting circles and will never find work outside of NZ or the questionable values of his TVNZ managers.

He seems like a nice guy to me. He says things that unfortunately a lot of people are too stuck up to see the humor in, but when people get offended its even more funny... I don't really see why he's a bully, though. He just mucks around and has fun. Since when the fuck was anything he did enough to qualify him as an "emotional bully"? HTFU PEOPLE... I'm sure most of us, while the "good" pc side of us knows we're not supposed to laugh publically at these sorts of things, how many of us can't help but piddle ourselves with hilarity watching another person rush headlong into the pooh-trap?

Aw c'mon, somebody who KNOWS they have a mo (and shouldn't) turns up and you're suprised by the comment??

He is doing what he is paid to do - win share of viewers. By being controversial he actually gets more viewers. For some reason unknown to me the majority of opinionated people go out of their way to find objectionable media whether it be magazines, newspapers, tv or websites. As a result they unwittingly perpetuate the very shit they are trying to get rid of.
If you don't like something in media then don't respond to that medium - don't read, view or surf and for goodness sake don't buy anything that was advertised on that medium coz that's what pays their wages - ad money.
He seems to have done his job well with this little series of coments.

Had another look at the vid but can't say her "mo" was obvious - only about 10secs of her before Henry got going. Guess you had to be there.
Undecided about this. Stephanie Mills appearance has nothing to do with what she says. If she was in a wheel-chair would Henry mock her? If she was a thalidomide victim, would he do that? Look - no arms - just calling it like it is.....

I think it takes more balls to appear on T.V with that kinda mo than most of the guys commenting against it in this thread have. Who cares, she doesn't.
I love her reply though.
"It's trademark Paul Henry and there are bigger issues in the world to worry about - like people dying of leukaemia from French [nuclear] testing. I think he likes being controversial - that's a polite way to put it. This is who I am and people make choices about who they are. "I have a really wonderful family, three gorgeous kids, a loving husband, great friends, really challenging job that I do part-time around all the other things I do in my life, and I love my life. "I'm secure with myself and I feel sorry that these people are so insecure about either their own appearance or mine. This is not about me, it's about them."

I can just imagine the howls or outrage on here if Henry read out adverse comments from veiwers emails after the BRONZ 'spokesman' had finished and gone off air.
This is not about pressure groups, fair game or anything else. It's just common decency and good manners. Henry has neither. It is sexism at its very worst.

Probably (1), keeping in mind that the last pressure group I belonged to was HART and they were subjected to a fair bit of abuse and ridicule.
BTW - I was thinking about your remark saying that Henry's comments were sexist. I don't see how, as it was a remark about her personal appearance, rather than women as a whole. HART?? Well ya gone up a notch on my scale.:msn-wink:
Yes I do see it as sexist comment. First and foremost the lady in question has every right to appear as she pleases. That is a fundamental choice and this is often quoted here on KB.
Henry’s comments become sexist when he applies a standard that is expected, in as much that woman should not have facial hair. This in itself is a perception of what is considered by our society to be unacceptable on a woman. What Henry fails to recognize is one of choice and it goes without saying any comments on anyone’s personal appearance………….especially when they do not have the right of reply is both arrogant and repugnant.

I have no knowledge of Wetere's comb over so can not comment as to whether any comments on his combover are sexist or not
However there are some salient points on sexist comments that differ from normal comments.
First and foremost is that a sexist comment is made by one sex about the other. The comment fails the sexist 'test' for want of a better word when the comment is made concerning ones 'own' sex. So in the case of
Wetere if the comment was made by a female then it may well have been 'sexist' but if by a male then no. It is not so much the comment itself but more to do with the sex of the person who is making it.
The second point that needs addressing is that sexism is usualy associated with some kind of comment that is unflattering and where a double standard is used. As I am unware of the comments concerning Wetere I can not offer an opinion on this.

Lets get real here, despite my earlier comments (forgive me if I sometimes disguise my true opinion in the interests of a good argument), I think Henry crossed the line (having said that, I do think the reaction is hysterical, and sexist).
Derogatory comments on anyone's appearance, be they male or female, is uncouth. As the comment is directed at one person, the offense caused therein can only really be experienced by that one person. So who are you to say that the mustache comment was more or less hurtful and/or distasteful than the comb comment?

I have not said that the moustach comment was more hurtfull one way or the other. I simply believe that if I was invited into your home you would have the good manners not to pass derogutaory comments about me after I had left.

The fact that Henry's comments only occurred after the interview had ended suggests to me that Henry knew what he was doing was inappropiate. Even his co-host was embarressed.
