Now that my poor brother has died as per this thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=91356 (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=91356), I now have his DR350SE for sale. Like me he kept his bikes in impeccable condition and this bike he bought new in Dec 1995 and it has done just 26,000kms and is in basically original condition.
Being the SE version it has electric start and a very neat instrument panel including rev counter. It still runs beautifully and to fire it up all I needed to do was the replace the battery because it was kaput and hadn't been used for a year. I've put in a good quality Yuasa, the $190 job, not the Chinese imitation $90 job. The battery that came out of it was the 1995 original. Back tyre is also new, a Dunlop D605, while the front tyre is in reasonable nick and it is a Pirelli MT21.
I would love to sell this bike to a committed adventurer (and hopefully fussy owner) to use it as it was intended at a reasonable price so please let me know before I advertise it any other way. I made a general comment on the RIP thread but wasn't in a position to sell the bike then.
I've attached a couple of more photos as it appears sitting in my garage. This is the steel tank version being real street legal in US and Aus but he fitted scuffproof from new which has protected it well, but the scuffproof itself is slightly stained you will see from petrol spills when filling from his can at home. Neil liked his steel tank because it meant he could use his magnetic tank bag on the bike as seen in the third photo attached when we did the Nevis Road.
There's also plenty of photos of the bike on the 2006 Capital Coast here http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=27185 (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=27185) like this one http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=29312&d=1143886595 (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=29312&d=1143886595) and this one http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=29349&d=1143888223 (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=29349&d=1143888223)
Neil always called it his tractor because it was able to pull so hard and hold traction on slippery hills and with the 6 speed box (unlike the later 5 speed DRZ400) it is still quite capable on the road because of the ratio spread.
Rego is on hold until August but I can reactivate that at any time after getting a new WOF.
Anyone interested PM me now.
UPDATE: See the messages attached to this thread. The bike is sold.
