Its up there, but it isnt really that high. More importantly is how well it has been maintained. My opinion is that most sports bikes dotn get up to that sort of milegage because the riders are either summer weekend riders or the bike is smashed up before it has a chance to be ridden much. if it looks in good nick, runs well and has been serviced at the correct intervals it will still have plenty of life in it!
If the price reflects the higher KMS I would happily purchase it. My GSXR has now done just under 30,000KMS and still runs perfectly, I would expect that at 60, 000KMS not much would have changed.

A youngish bike with high K's, more likely to be 'warm' K's rather than one thats done lots of short trips to the shops.

And you need to ask yourself, "How were those miles clocked up?" Round town commuting and occasional country blats, or long country tours?

A bike will age twice as fast commuting as it will country riding

As Brett says, the maintenance history is the important thing. You can screw a bike in 10,000km if you abuse the hell out of it. At the opposite end, a well looked after one will last and last.

A courier has a CB900, its done 160,000km at least I believe, no major work etc.

My 6 month old KTM has done 16,000km, and been in the shop for over a month of that... guess I'm biased on high mileage

Is this the one on trademe??

The price is really good even when you take the kms into account. I say if its in good running order and they got a good service history then jump on it man.

God knows i would!

not even run in yet? when I sold my xj it had 136,000 on the clock... had regular maintenance and stil had a lot of life in her

don't worry about how many k's its done... as long as if it has been maintained

I really wanted to go for a ride around coro today with some mates but one of the main things that held me back was the km's on my ride. It just clicked over 80,000 the other day which in many motorcyclists view is very high.

This seems a shame and silly as the bike has been very well maintained and is very tidy and runs very well etc etc. I love it and enjoy it heaps but am thinking of selling soon, only because I want something in a more up right touring position (such as a BMW).

It's only taken me about 2 years to clock 20k on it. In my opinion it should be good for at least another 80k, but it's from the re-sale point of view that I am worried.

Looking at bikes on trade me makes me wonder whether some disconnect their speedo's or ride them only 3 times a year, I just can't see how these bikes have done so little km's for there age.

Bikes are good for all km's - one of the guys in our group has done over 120 km on bike. Its still going good - he always maintains it. So if you like it, don't just flick it because the km's are getting up. Look after it and it will last alot longer.... :wari:

Cheers for your comments crazyhorse. I do like it and depending on what happens with ACC I would like to keep it and buy another one for touring :)

That's terrible... I mean... its already ticked over the 80k, you better not ride it any more :sunny: Seriously... if you're worried about the re-sale value, your best return on the purchase would have been to not buy it in the first place :done:

My KTM (from new) has done about 31k in 13 months

I totally agree with Crazyhorse ... you didn't buy the bike to resell you bought it to ride and enjoy ... do that ... maintain it ... and it will do you well ...

140k on the 9 and still goes like the day I brought it. never seen a mechanic. first trouble I had with it was a coupel of weeks ago which turned out to be a broken wire to the starter relay. I am always surprised at the low ks of bikes around. I didnt buy it to leave it in the shed.

Had a similar bike... 120,000km as a motorcycle courier... then I did a tour round NZ on it before I sold it with 136,000 no major work just regular standard maintenance... I believe it is now run it...

It's going to be like my car, keep it for ever and run it into the ground. For the record, my car has 300,000 and still on original motor and hasn't needed rebuild. Not bad considering it's turbo and modified.

mate that bike is just run in,
have a gander at my profile pic,
with regular maintenance, good riding and being kept clean 350k is possibile.
the red bike on my profile did 365k around the world, before it stopped,
I was given it by its PO , so are now its second owner.
High milage depends upon the qaulity of the bike and the qaulity of the mantainence.

I find not raping the fuck out of it helps.
I have tried to blow up bikes before their warranty is up, and never suceeded, but the gearbox in my DRZ-SM was not happy at 8000kn
