I have decided that I really, badly need to have a go at sidecar swinging! There's a lot on in us for April, but I've got this in my diary to check out. And Te Puke is not that far from Taupo. :D
Are you going to be there, Kickaha, or is it too much of a hike for you?

You're not gunna get me as a swinger - I've been crashed as passenger in my own chairs! But I don't think I am a good sidecar road racer,I'm too aggresive and ride on the road like a speedway chair, lots of sliding and max action on the bars...dumb fun.

Yes Slim you are right you do need to have a go at swinging on a chair, then it's a short slippery slope to convincing your man to sell his bike and go sidecar racing :niceone:
Probably won't be at it this year as we have a meeting the weekend before, rode up to it last year and it was a good day out
You're not gunna get me as a swinger - I've been crashed as passenger in my own chairs! But I don't think I am a good sidecar road racer,I'm too aggresive and ride on the road like a speedway chair, lots of sliding and max action on the bars...dumb fun.
These boys will take good care of you they're not going to do anything stupid with a novice on board, and your style might make it on a short chair
If it's like last year then $10 gets you three laps and most people will be well and truly stuffed by then anyway, they'll do a sighting lap and check you're happy then crank it up a little
they normally put through 100+ people at this event
You sign in with the usual disclaimer promising not to sue anyone if they manage to kill you,pay your money and get you ticket (or tickets) stroll down pit lane till you see an outfit(or rider) who takes your fancy, give them the ticket and off you go.

Massive respect has been gained for the swingers on sidechair outfits. What a workout (cardio as well as weights)! :gob:
I went for my first ever sidechair ride with Johnny B on his Norton outfit and had a blast. Discovered afterwards that I was holding on too tightly though - the massive vibrations were on the verge of numbing my entire forearms after just 3 laps. But what a blast. :D And he was on the gentle side with me, apparently. When The Man came back from his ride with John, he said there was all sorts of crazy sliding & passing on the inside & suchlike while he was playing swinger. A disadvantage of being a fellow (albeit 2 wheeled only) racer I spose. :devil2:
I then had a blast with Jason on #20 for 5 laps & what a difference being on a modern setup! Minimal vibrations & what a rush of speed! I was puffing after only 2 laps though - it truly is a great workout. The Man reported similar antics with Jason as were displayed by Johnny B though. :devil2:
A beautiful day in Autumnal Taupo, despite the fairly constant breeze blowing dust everywhere. And what a fantastic turnout, probably due to the local More FM station getting behind it again. There was also a film-man from Auckland regional TV Station "Triangle", so you Aucklanders should check out this Friday at 8:30pm for a bit of a report. :)

Don't know Jason, was his a short or long outfit?
it gets a lot easier the more you do it and holding on to tight is the mistake everyone makes first time out, makes your forearms pump up
Now think about this in a race they'll be pushing it a lot harder and you have to do the equivalent of 20 laps at Taupo for it to be the correct distance for a National race, can you hang on that long lol
Good on you for trying it,so you and the man will be buying one soon? :2thumbsup

Jason Voight riding #20 which is a red/yellow short outfit. The bike holds the lap record at Pukekohe apparently and has a Kwacka engine I think. Made in Oz and has a sister rig which was also at Taupo.
I hear you about the arm pump. I'd never experienced it before and it takes a while to dissipate.
That'd be a big N O on buying ourselves a sidecar rig!!!
