View Full Version : Hyosung fine at 100km/h?

Hey,
I have a 2007 Hyosung gt250r with a screaming demon exhaust, and I was wondering if the bike is okay doing 100km/h. The bike is doing around 6500rpm at 100km, and feels alright... But does kind of feel like its going pretty hard to do 100, so I was wondering if its alright for the bike to be used much at this speed, as I use it to do around 40km at the 100km speed limit a day to get to uni?

im sure our CBR250 was doing more then that at 100k...
should be no problem

6500rpm sounds OK for a 250. What does it red line at.
This bike should do 100kph all day long with no problem.
Relax and enjoy.

Its a Hyosung. Any speed more than 0.00kmh (in otherwords, moving) is enough to cause problems.

It will be fine. Travelled all the time at legal speeds at that RPM, didn;t hurt mine any....:)

Mate! I just took mine all the way up and around the Coromandel Peninsula over the weekend from the Eastern Bay of Plenty! You won't harm it at all.. Just make sure you check it over before going on a trip and you'll be sweet as. I had an awesome time and the bike didn't miss a beat, and I can assure you, I did more than 100km/hr at some stages! :sunny:

If it's got the stock sprockets then that's what it is designed to do and it should do it all day long.

No problems.
At those revs your hyohandbag should last just long enough for you to get a full-shortly thereafter disappearing in a puff of blue smoke..........'course you will be free to buy a real bike then:devil2:

As many of the others have said the bike will be fine I have the GT250 comet now with over 15,000ks on it I cruise around 100-110kmh sitting around 7-8rpms never had any problems.

so did I! well on saturday, and yea my bike didnt miss a beat either :scooter:, did you find as the bike heated up it performed better? ie doing higher speeds at lower revs than usual??

I think you'll find that isn't possible.....same gear + same revs = same speed
It's a fixed equation.

The laws of physics don't apply to Hyosungs - haven't you seen the "I'm gonna mod my Ho'bag until Hyosung sponsor me in GP 250" thread?
Unless of course it was suffering from some sort of uniform clutch slippage at cold temps?
I think what Hiflyer was referring to was that the bikes tend to rev out easier once warm. Just because he is no seasoned rider and mechanical genius like yourself doesn't mean you can go around pissing on his bonfire.
cut the fella some slack.

ok well thats just what i found, maybe the speedo was out even more than usual with the heat? it certainly had more oomph than it usually did

Hey Riding - just wondering, does your Hyo backfire at all? I got my Demon installed a week ago and it backfires like a mad thing....lol. I've had the sparkplugs checked and it's not running lean or anything, just wondering if other Hyos do it too!

I take it you're talking about popping and crackling when you close the throttle, rather than actual backfiring? If so, for some colloquial evidence, the one person I know with a Screaming Demon on their GT250R has very quiet popping and ticking on the overrun. Certainly nothing particularly noticeable.
Check for exhaust leaks along the full length of the system, from where the headers join to the engine to where the can joins the headers.

29th March 2009, 22:38
Ah, yes, that explains it. I think there are some small holes in the bottom of the header pipes - had to cut the thing right open as something inside it was rattling. I think there may be a small hole not completely patched up.
It is when I close off the throttle, but full on backfiring - not just popping and crackling. I'm not too worried then - the headers are pretty wasted anyway (had a crack in the header pipe from the front cylinder and everything rattles around like crazy) I'm probably going to look at getting the headers replaced sometime anyway.

It would just be popping and crackling normally, but due to your loud not-very-silencer stuck on the end of the headers, the exploding fuel mixture in the exhaust system doesn't get muffled very well and you hear the full effect.
Night and day difference on my aftermarket 'zorst for my RS; full-on explosions whenever I buttoned off. Then I fitted new exhaust port gaskets and not only is the whole thing quieter, but the explosions are now merely a pleasant background twitter.

Hard acceleration and poor quality oil are probably more damaging than sustaining a certain number of revs in a 4 stroke engine.
Most 250 vtwins will rev > 1/2 their range to reach 100. The VTR250 pulls about 7,000 with a 11,500 redline.

Yeah, she sure went well. I was real pleased. A friend and I stayed at Hahei and we did some tramping and sunbathing and relaxing around that area. It was awesome! The ride back yesterday was fantastic:niceone:

I think there may be a small hole not completely patched up.This is a common fault. Did you do the repair? What else can you tell us about it? I have two bikes to fix.. one of them sounds like a stone in a tin can.

The welding job on the headers is a little, er, economical.. and it leaks exhaust out, and air in at different times. I think they have done this on purpose. ;)

I was out riding one day and I all of a sudden started to get this horrible jarring rattle coming from somewhere down near the engine. I was quite concerned at first, but I quickly realised the engine itself still sounded the same and it wasn't being affected at all. I took it to my mate in Aucks who is a bike mechanic by trade and we took the exhaust apart one evening.
It turns out that the header pipe from the front cylinder had cracked and split in half as there are two pipes - an outer one and an inner one. The inner one had split and was jarring against itself when riding, creating this horrible noise.
The only way to fix it was to drill a hole in the outer pipe and weld the inner pipe and the outer pipe together to hold the thing in place, however seeing as it's still making that noise (admittedly not as loud as before) I wonder if it has come loose or another part has cracked.
The whole header system on the Hyo is crap anyway - once I find employment I'm half thinking of just getting the whole bloody thing replaced.

Heh.
Depends on the nature of the employment, but I do hear a Gixxer calling my name. When I can answer that call is another story.

Yeah fuck it Im just gonna cruise at a hundred. But yeah my pipe does pop when i button off. I heard an AIS blocker stops this, but the popping isnt really bad for the bike anyway...
Im getting a bit of air escaping at the base of my muffler, like around a seam part, looks like it supposed to do that, but maybe something need tightening, everyone think I should tighten the screws up? The air escaping is on the muffler itself, not between the muffler and the pipe.

You may find that is a hole deliberately put there to let water out of the muffler. Mine 'pops' but that's cause it's a v-twin, and the 650 is much louder (and much more awesome). I think you may be over-thinking and worrying excessively! Get on the bike and ride, mate!:2thumbsup

As long as you aren't riding around continuously using 3/4 throttle or more, then you will be fine. Even my 650 is doing 5,500 rpm at open road cruising speed - only 1500 rpm less than yours.
Riding any little bike full-throttle everywhere will eff it.

My GT250 reports 7000rpm at 100kph(indicated), and around 8500rpm at 120(indicated)
100kph is about 110(indicated) on my speedo
Currently at 37000km on the clock.

I've done over 170 on mine and it wasn't too happy with me, but it did do it. It sits at 100 quite comfortably but there is not a lot of torque left if you are in 5th gear at that sort of speed so if you want to pass anyone, it's best to drop a gear or two.
I have riden for a couple of hours without stopping, travelling between 100- 150kph no worries on a gt250r

yeah I actually do 90-100km of commuting a day, about 70% of that is 100-115km/h. I've been doing it for 3-4months now and there has been no problems so far, I keep the bike in good order and keep it serviced so I think its all fine, just look after the bike.

Give it heaps mate!
Regarding the popping and exhaust leak - 'pop' down to Repco or SuperCheap and get a small tube of high temp silicone sealant - loosen off that pipe, give it a good squirt of sealant and tighten - leave it to set overnight minimum. This should cure the air leak and vastly reduce or remove the popping.

Any particular brand or anything to look at on this one, AllanB?
My Hyo sounds like a 21-gun salute whenever I am decelerating since I have put the new can on. I think there are a couple of holes in the headers or something... keen to get that resolved ASAP!!

Still backfiring even with the gasket glue in place. Doesn't seem as frequent as before and has a bit more snap crackle pop as opposed to big explosions, but it is annoying to say the least.
Anyone got any bright ideas as to what it could be??
Get rid of the whole system, straight pipe with a mini reverse cone exiting just behind your foot.
G.P style. Badass.

That'd be nice but not really worth it on a Hyo.
I may have to just put up with it until I can afford to upgrade.
