Looking at buying another toy this year, if there is anyone who own, or has owned a ZX12 before, could you give me a breif description on reliabilty, performance etc.
Havn't had a chance to ride one yet, predicting it's going to be similar to a busa, which is a blast.

PM Death Inc. about them, he owned one for a while... Ive heard that they handle like shit, but still pull hard at 300kmh... are good for 330kmh on the speedo which is 312kmh (i think) once the revs and sprocket etc was worked out...

Cheers, missed reading that thread all together.
It looks a tad expensive for a 2000 model, but the examples i'm thinking of might be imports, which i don't want.

12's are wicked bikes...evil one could say. If you don't have much self control don't get a 12. It'll turn you into a 1 or 2 wheeled looney in no time .
Massive power and effortless open road qualities can see you "cruising" at BIG speed , much the same as the busa, but with better wind protction and a more relaxed riding position.
the busa has more torque and low end power than the 12(well it is 100cc's bigger), but the 12 really comes on strong up top. :2thumbsup
I think the bus would be a better 2-up bike though.
The "open class" bikes are no 600/750/1000 bikes so you couldn't expect them to be as agile as a "pure" sportbike.
I have done 1 trackday on my 12 as was quite pleased at how well it got around the circuit compared to other bikes I had used on the track.

I like the bus aswell, but read on a registry site that they have cam chain/tensioner problems.
I just want a big mile-eater.
Might keep the VTR just for short blasts out to Raglan, and general hooning around.

mate I had a2003 zx12r until xmas,180hp on dyno with power command, 330km/ph ,stuck to the road like clue handled fantastic, pop a wheely at 250ks no shit.brakes are brillant.the only reason i sold it was because I would hav eventually lost my licience, could not help going 200mph,what abuzz, mine had 10hp more than the hyabuza[or how ever ya spell it].one thing tho they are def a real riders bike, they are like a wild horse,I lowered mine a inch or two which meant it would sit like clue at speed, what a buzz! :niceone:

I've a mate who had a ZX12R for all of three months before he ditched it.
He said it handled like shit, was badly built, as uncomfortable as hell and felt like it was thrown together in a simple attempt to be fast while pretending to be a sports tourer. He had a Busa before the ZX. He's now found his senses and bought a Bird :niceone:
I've never ridden one, so I guess this is just a second hand account and hearsay. Best you try before you buy as I've another mate that loves his. But I hear that it's not for the faint hearted, and demands real attention as it's an animal.

ZX12R hummm very fast . Thought of buying one before GSXR1000 talked to Death about his . Had read & been told about them doing clutch's & clutch basket's Death said he had done a couple I think . But had Draged it a fair bit . Great ride poistion & sharp looks to . But I think I'd go with the Busha for that Torque over 5kph top speed of the 12R

Think it would be fine for what i want it for. Drags and 200k mono's are not really my scene.

Don't think those linked breakes would suit my riding style, plus it's a tad to heavy.

they are lighter ,just as quick and are at a bloody good price new ,with 2 year warranty, just curious but why do u want a four,i.ve had everything ,pers i think twins of any kind are the best,i found fours are like gaint 2 strokes ,your always revving them

The short fuel range gets old quick. Thye later models with larger tanks are to touring orientated. I would consider a TLS, but fuel range is roughly the same. And i hate the look of SV's.
Plus i've put on about 16kgs since i first brought the VTR, feel like a big Gorilla riding it.
Have to agree about twins, once i stoped riding it like four, it has to be the most rewarding bike i've owned.
Torque is what you feel, thats why i loved the twin for punching out of corners, but i'm sure the 12 would be just as much fun.

A dude here has just brought a brand new ZX12R in Blackpearl look's fkn sweet as .Had a Busha before it . Is very happy with the bike as you would be . I tryed a 2000 model which was great apart from the throttle was very snatchy I read they changed that by putting a cam on the carby so as to prevent this accuring . Excellent drifting bike round corner's tho !

What TS said, mostly. The handling issues I had with mine were because I wanted it to do something it wasn't really designed for,I was trying to ride it like the gixx and they're just too big and clumsy for that.....and I killed a few clutches, but they were all killed while drag racing. The muzzy clutch hub helped a bit though.
The 12 will smoke a busa, but they're more work to do it.
Try to get one with a full system,it's worth about 15hp....and most of the post '00 models were speed resticted to 300kph.
These things are amazing to ride, they pull as hard at 300k as at 100,will wheely out of corners (or smoke the back tyre) up to about 180 and at 300+ feel like you could take your hands off the bars and light a ciggy.....
One last thing.....Holeshots has a good '00 model...one careful owner.....
