Seems to be the done thing so I'll post a short intro; Greetings to all.
First, the bad news: I'm an Aussie!
Second, the good news: After my first visit here (30 days in a hired van - can you imagine the torture that is to a motorcyclist?), I decided I'd better relocate to this biking paradise, so 18 months later moved over here with my bike (oh yeah, and my woman). Seven years and counting... lovin' every one.
I enjoy riding. And I mean that literally as, "I enjoy riding, full-stop." Don't care what, when, where or why. The longer and harder the better, as the actress said to the bishop.
Road-wise, I hang with the Auckland RATs on my aging '95 Triumph Trophy 900 / Daytona Super III sleeper. I'm also a regular at Rusty Nuts events, such as the Grand Challenge and Southern Cross. Hence the 160,000km+ on that bike.
In the dirt, I play on an '01 Suzuki DR-Z250. It's a struggle in the sandy hills at Woodhill, but hey, it's cheap motoring while I'm on the steep part of the learning curve.
The DR has a second set of wheels with street tyres and taller gearing for road use, especially daily commuting. It also gets used as a day-ride blast machine, particularly when riding with other lower-capacity bikes - say hi to changing_man (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=2187) .
I've done some adventure rides over the years, on various bikes, but I've discovered that I prefer more technical riding and less open tracks. I do a fair bit of caving (other love of my life) so I'm not short on the "scenery experience." Adventure rides are fantastic, and I commend them to you, but I just don't have the time to do it all.
Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Hope to meet some more of you in the flesh sometime.
Cheers,
Colin
