Seems to be the done thing so I'll post a short intro; Greetings to all.

First, the bad news: I'm an Aussie!

Second, the good news: After my first visit here (30 days in a hired van - can you imagine the torture that is to a motorcyclist?), I decided I'd better relocate to this biking paradise, so 18 months later moved over here with my bike (oh yeah, and my woman). Seven years and counting... lovin' every one.

I enjoy riding. And I mean that literally as, "I enjoy riding, full-stop." Don't care what, when, where or why. The longer and harder the better, as the actress said to the bishop.

Road-wise, I hang with the Auckland RATs on my aging '95 Triumph Trophy 900 / Daytona Super III sleeper. I'm also a regular at Rusty Nuts events, such as the Grand Challenge and Southern Cross. Hence the 160,000km+ on that bike.

In the dirt, I play on an '01 Suzuki DR-Z250. It's a struggle in the sandy hills at Woodhill, but hey, it's cheap motoring while I'm on the steep part of the learning curve.

The DR has a second set of wheels with street tyres and taller gearing for road use, especially daily commuting. It also gets used as a day-ride blast machine, particularly when riding with other lower-capacity bikes - say hi to changing_man (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=2187) .

I've done some adventure rides over the years, on various bikes, but I've discovered that I prefer more technical riding and less open tracks. I do a fair bit of caving (other love of my life) so I'm not short on the "scenery experience." Adventure rides are fantastic, and I commend them to you, but I just don't have the time to do it all.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Hope to meet some more of you in the flesh sometime.

Cheers,
Colin

KLX

What flavour? Last decent ride in Woodhill was with a bloke on a new KLX300. We worked out the thing had roughly 10% more power but 30% more torque, for virtually no size/weight penalty over a 250cc. Sounds like a good idea to me!

Colin

Grew up in a big country town, more of a rural capital really, a sports-mad place called Wagga Wagga, located about half-way Sydney-Melbourne. Moved to Sydney to go to Uni and the last few years before NZ was in the Blue Mountains.

Living in the mountains made for good post-work rides after working late, taking the long way home via Bells Line of Road out to Lithgow. Helps that my then-girlfriend lived out there.

Cheers,
Colin

Ah yeah, we're mates. He lives close enough so I can walk 'round the night before the morning after, or walk over to get the car the morning after the night before! :-)

Funny how life imitates the 'net; we met online on the infamous "Triumph Digest" before he moved to NZ. Been good mates ever since; likely to stay that way despite possible geographical difficulties down the track. Motorcyclists just don't mind traveling for trivial reasons, such as a 600km round trip just for a beer with a mate.

He's ageing and in need of a good service as well.
Er, I'll leave that job to Mrs Darth. Apparently she enjoys it?! Oooooh, err!

Cheers,
Colin

Welcome, warewolf. Don't feel embarrassed about being an Aussie. Personally, I think all those stereotypes are a bit exaggerated. I recall once meeting an Australian who wasn't at all loud-mouthed, uncouth, vulgar or conceited. That was back in 1972, as far as I recall...

Just remember that half the posts on this forum are made by guys who are pissed or stoned and make no sense at all. The other half are made by religious fanatics, crackpots, spelling Nazis, traffic cops, trackday maniacs, HD-haters, Honda-lovers and other assorted lunatics, and make perfect sense. Provided you read them when you're pissed or stoned...

That was probably an ex-pat Kiwi on the dole in Bondi...

Speaking of which, see Top Aussies (http://www.geocities.com/topaussieguide/), even Mighty Mick gets a nomination on page 2.
