have been a couple of threads on here lately about the huge ACC levy that gos along with registration - especially if you have more that one vehicle. People have suggested not registering and taking chance of getting pulled up. I am all for that but what happens if you have an accident. If you have a current WOF bike is roadworthy but are you covered by insurance if you have WOF but no rego?? Could ring insurance company but easier to ask you lot. :msn-wink:

The easiest thing to do is check your policy wording written in your motorcycle policy. Most policies usually have an "unsafe or unroadworthy" clause. Not having a current WOF or vehicle license would make it unroadworthy therefore not covered if that wording was used.
Likewise if you are riding your bike outside your license conditions. This could be deemed unsafe (ie. a restricted rider on a >250cc motorcycle).

Pretty simple - if you are riding without a warrent/rego you are riding illegally therefore not legal = no insurance.
The question to be answered is what if it is stolen from the garage and not registered???

Um, we have bikes that are insured but not registered - and I bet other people do too. Some of ours are on exemption, some are trail bikes that are not registered anyway. We have also had cars in the past that are on exemption other than when they are being used and they were insured too.
However, I can certainly see the insurance companies saying "tough" if you have an accident and did not have the bike/car registered for reasons of economy. Ours were covered for theft and if we had been using them to get to and from a warrant issuer, they would have been covered too.

there's laws and there are laws:
there's a law which says you have to have a rego and can be fined if you don't
and there's a law which stops insurance companies from using non-relavent facts to refuse a claim
this has been covered once or twice (or more) before
