looking foward to this one!last one I did was Paparimu and wouldn't mind a heavy downpour the night before just to make it a bit more of a challenge on those steep uphills and downhills:niceone:

Will the course be the same as last year Scott? Was going to do Riverhead but Waerenga last year was megachoice.

just got back, track is 30km long, it is on the otherside of the valley from last year, we can not do the longer kids loops as the first and last bit of the ride are pretty steep, so it will be the normal couple of paddocks for the kids,
i think the track is pretty cool, more up and down than most of our rides so should be a bit more technical,

Aww, I was really looking forward to doing the same loop as last year. Marks 1 years worth of riding a bike! The first time I did this loop it nearly killed me. I think it was a mixture of rider ability and an old heavy dunger of a bike. Front brake failing half way round wasn't fun.

Couldn't be as bad as Tussock surely, had a few hairy moments where I couldn't see a thing and banged into a deep rut!

I may take my daughter to Thunder although I'd love to do the more technical main loop on this ride. Bugger there's no learners loop this time when the riding for me would be the best of all the rides by the sound of it! Ah well a small sacrifice to get my girl into riding!!

hot dusty day, a couple of ambluences and a Helicopter needed unfortunatly, track was a bit more technical than the rest this year, big hills and awesome veiws to be had, 431 riders today, got really dusty near the end of the day,

yeh was a good ride and some of those offs were in strange places kinda had you thinking how the hell did you end up there.

the really bad guy with a femur that needed a choppa had no idea either, then someone hurt there hip in teh same spot looking down to see where he had added up, and ended up down the same spot, not the smartest thing,
that area has some big hills and some long drop offs if you get off the track, you have to ride to what you can see, unfortunatly it is part of the risk we take doing these rides,

Enjoyed the first and last 10k's , found the middle of the trail where there was rough pugging a little hard on the arms since I was on a quad without a steering stabilizer.
I had a faulty alternator so only completed 1 lap as it rose to a head about 23-25 k's through when the battery had no juice left and caused the bike to shut down.Managed to get it going again and limped it back but that was it for the day.
Enjoyed this seasons rides and looking forward to 09/10's!

Bloody good fun.....
I usually follow Sophie on these rides while Grace zooms on ahead, but with Sophie not there today I got to hoon a bit behind Grace. Boy has she got faster... Today marked the 1st anniversary of her trail riding and with 80 hours on the KX, she sure has improved...
Here's a few random pix, have to confess the riding was too good to stop with the camera much... Missed out on a fourth loop by 5 mins.....:weep:

That was pretty fun :woohoo: Had some problems on a couple of the uphills, getting the hang of them a bit better now tho. Agreed with flyingcr250, I'm a bit cautious on the cliffy drop off bits, but the fast open parts near the middle/end were really fun. Would have liked another go around but oh well that's how the cookie crumbles! I was kinda tired anyway :o That bumpy stuff is hard on your hands.
Can't wait to get another year of riding under my belt and come back next year!

A few more,
I think Grace was telling him to harden up, prayer's not going help....
We had to wait wile the chopper landed, so Grace handed out jelly worms........

More great photos, how do you manage not recking your cameras while riding,
A) not falling off
B) Falling carefully
c) just take a older camera around with yourself and not worrie about it.

Don't know about these guys with the nice cameras, but I carry around an average quality digital point & shoot in my camelback, inside a ziplock bag (in case of river crossings or rain I guess) haven't broken it yet and I always have at least one off per ride :third:
Thx for the pic Climintie, new facebook avatar, yeah

I'm not allowed to fall off, my wife said so...........
Today I only took a point and shoot Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H3 8.1mp. All wrapped up in bubble wrap in my camel pack........ Sophie had the Canon at the photo shoot, the results of which are stunning.............

I only took my camera on the first loop it was a slow ride with helping alot of
fallen riders pick there bikes up, and make sure they where Ok.
The next 2 trips out I had a blast, at times I felt like I was on my own, couldn't see anyone in front or behind me for what seemed like miles.

Awesome ride! Enjoyed it very much. Thought it was a good mix with a bit of everything, downhills, hills, slow, fast, technical etc. Hope the casualty(s) of yesterday is ok though that got airlifted.
Thanks Mr. Motorcycles for an awesome day, the BRP (Big Red Pig) and myself enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

Me too! 3 laps and one soft fall. I did the same thing but going up that steep hill and the little KX125 went off the boil, put my foot down on the side that dropped away and ended up cartwheeling 10mtrs down the hill with the KX bouncing after me. No broken levers tho'! Feeling a sore shoulder, ribs, wrist and knee now but!

So true. Not to kick anyone who's already down but my golden riding rule has always been 'don't go fast where you can't see the track' (dust, blind crests etc.) Obviously not a panacea but it's saved a me a few bone breakers for sure. I reckon risks like that are for guys chasing championships!
The ambulance and helicopter incidents are always a sobering reminder of what can happen, and can seem like a negative thing, but having had a ride on that chopper, it's a great feeling of relief being loaded into it (especially when they start pumping the morphine in). The people who do that type of work amaze me.

One with Broken Femur, will give him a call in a few days if i do not have any other information make its way to me, he is a customer of mine,
ACC will pay for the helicopter, it is a bit of a drama to get one, you need a Paramedic to order one for you, i tried everything to get one direct for him to save the weight but could not get it sorted,
other two were not to bad, i am pretty sure they would have been released that night,
