View Full Version : Okay, serious opinions on new bike?

fizbin

So It is almost time for me to upgrade. and i am dreamily looking at TM for ideas on bikes. I have to admit i am a bit superficial on how a bike looks (in my opinion of course!) but am also intersest in what htses bikes are like in greneral.

Not after rubbish just a serious opinion by people that have owned or ridden some/all of these bikes. info on reliability, ride-ability, etc would be appreciated.

Here are some examples of bikes that i have seen that catch my eye.

Thanks

Stepping up to a 1000cc bike is absolutely fine if you are mature, its the idiots like me that would suffer. Test road a R1 and a gsxr1000 the other day, going from 60hp to 150hp, ummm, if i bought one today, id be dead tomorrow. I'm just too trigger happy lol. Power wheelies are just too much fun.

Had a TL for many years which incidently may well be up for sale end of next week fwiw, great bike, the low km one looks sweet, few things to look out for with them, cracked damper mount (damper/shock are seperate).TLS over the years has had more than its share of bullshit thrown at it from all over, mine and many other peoples have never suffered from any of the supposed problems and as for the "widow maker" label:laugh:The SV to has suffered a similar amount of shite but for a different reason "watered down TLS" etc etc, load of shite, dyno graphs show the reality, the TL just comes on in a rush at 6000 ish rpms which is still a bit of a rush but in reality little would seperate both if ridden by riders of equal ability.Could rave on for ever as ive lived/breathed etc TLs for years,if you decide thats what your after and want to know anything flick me a pm or visit TLZONE.NET my home away from home and a pack of TL owning clever buggers from all over the world.

ok, your looking at twins ( kind of , seems only the jap ones ? )
I love twins, love the way they ride and think your on the right path.

the vtr's with carbs are very gas hungry, probably the same with any big twin with carbs. I do think hondas are generally well made, not that I would own one.
the SV has basic suspension, if this will not satisfy you don't buy it, as you would spend less getting a better bike.
don't know much about tl's / tlr's .

I have a buell and love it, great suspension and brakes IMO, anyone will tell you they handle very well, i like the look of the faired one i have ( dont think much of the unfaired models ). my one has the 1200 harley engine which is VERY low maintenance so cheap maintenance, no valve adjustments need to be made. the throttle body injection gives good economy, and i love the way it sounds and performs. also very easy to work on not that i have needed to. I have a friend with one ( like myself has the race chip and pipe ) who has raped it for 40,000 km and has had no issues.

I also think some of the moto guzzi's are worth a look but italian bikes do not really have a rep for low maintenance and reliability.
however, i want a guzzi or another bmw for my third bike.

love my bmw as well, also good twins.

Yeah i am def leaning more to the V-twin thing. I basically learnt to ride on one and i am comfortable with how they handle etc. Will have a look at the buell's but like i said i dont want to spend much more than about 7 - 7.5K on this bike

there was a couple of V11 guzzi's on trade me recently about that price. 2000 / 2003 bikes with 20,000 / 25,000 km. may be worth a look.

have not seen a XB buell that price yet ( XB's are 2003 onwards I think ) but not far off that price. the older models can be bought for that kind of money but the looks are not as great IMO. however they look great customised.

If you're going for the bike that has been re-registered the person should have the before and after photo's or a link to them.

Yes the bike could have been written of for not much but what I really want to know is that at speed and going fast through a corner with bumps that the bike will behave like it should. I'd be wanting more than a inspection I'd be wanting someone I trust to run it up and also want a list of parts replaced. And probably the alignment of the front checked.

Actually for all the hassle I'd just skip it or make a ridiculous offer.

Good luck with choosing.

You asked for serious opinions - make your fucken mind up, do you want serious opinions or not?
Or do you just want opinions that are in agreement with yours?
what i was after was constructive help on what these bike ride like, from people who have ridden them, not "5 out of the 6 of your bikes look like shit"
if i wanted you opinion on what i bike looked like i would ask. As stated in my first post "I" like the look of these bikes. i have a lot of respect for the knowledge that some people have on this site including you. if the general consensus was that say for example the GSXR rode like shit and was unreliable then i would not buy it. If everyone said that it was a awesome bike all round then that would sway me in the other direction.
if you don't have anything constructive to add (see the Quote below to see an example of a constructive post) and are just out to post up shit then don't post.

What are you smoking?
I gave you the only correct answer. Remember, I said the GSXR.
Being that you are superficial - again, I gave you the only correct answer.
With about 10,000 reviews on the Web attesting to the reliability and the legend that is the GSXR, WTF is anyone else going to add about how they ride? It's not the king of bikes for nothing nob.
I also said get it checked out - as obviously you are a noob and incapable of this yourself. Again, good advice.

Please let me know if you require any further assistance with either your bike purchase or with reading comprehension.

While I've never ridden a TL, I did own a VTR. The Suzuki is superior for performance, looks better (VTR is kinda ugly) and is probably more reliable (VTR has camchain tensioner issues).
BUT you really need to test-ride a bike - the one you buy should be the one that does it for you. Having said that, I'm sure if you bought any one of those bikes you'd be very happy with it.
