Hi again!
One thing that would boost my morale would be an offer of work! If you look at my profile you'll see I've worked as a PA for EVER, but when we finally get to NZ I'd love to do book-keeping again.
Ideally, I'd like to be working in a company that does books for small/medium sized, or new-start enterprises. I appreciate that there will be some differences in tax etc but the basics remain the same. (I have an HNC in Accounts & HND in Secretarial Studies, and a degree in Psychology)...
Other half has an degree that he also got thru the Open University, and his 'thing' is environmental monitoring. He currently works for one of the local councils here, and would like to do the same in NZ. He monitors gas and leachate emissions from land-fills, is fit and healthy and loves working out-doors..
That said, we'd both be willing to do virtually anything to get a start when we arrive in CHCH.
We're constantly applying the CHCH City Council, and Environment Canterbury but I cant see us getting any offers whilst still in the UK as we arent on any of the skills shortage lists, tho we gained our PR as skilled migrants, but if anyone has any contacts that might help us, please pm me.
Cheers folks!

PM bikern1mpho (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=15032). She may know about some stuff in Christchurch which you may be able to fit in with, given your psychology background.
Actually I'll see her on Monday and will enquire.
As for your husband, check with Hitcher (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=636). He has numerous contacts within the public sector and may be able to help too.

The environmental council type jobs people tend to keep till death or retirement so probably heavy industry might be better and at least the pay is more comparable. There are a few chemical companies in ChCh, I work for one (but based in Auckland) the other is Orica. Expand his skill set (i.e. bullshit if you have to) to experience in H&S and environmental to cover more bases.
You need a largish organisation to support millstones like us, unfortunately Christchurch is a small city so options will be more limited. Best of luck to you both. Go for a Guzzi

Your Hubby could look at the mining industry. Extensive environment monitoring procedures are in place at McCraes flat -Otago. and Martha and Favona gold mines in Waihi.
If you moved to Waihi- I could give you a job too. My books are in a hell of a state!:crybaby:

Yer 'a' mad! We'll fit in well then!!!!
Actually, my degree is in Psychology, and although I was offered a clinical research assistant post, I couldnt accept it at the time as I wanted to do forensic psychology and that would have involved another year or two full time study which I couldnt afford!
However, you could say you use it every day anyway, at work!!
Hmmmmm, I need a reference yet! Better not say that!
Well, hubs and I spent another evening replacing the fork seals on the Bandit, that we'd replaced last week! Doh! It's nae happenin. I think we need to see how much we;ll get from the breakers for it. We promised it to a laddie, but Im nae happy sellin it wi fork seals nae sealing right and a front caliper that's seen better days...
I know it would be sold as seen, but I'm not confident he'd actually do the required work on it...................... See, I;m like that! I shouldnt fret and worry, but I do!
What's everyone up to this weekend then?
We were going to go hillwalking, but its forecast poor weather, so will probably catch a film or something. Good local band playing in Aberdeen 2moro night :headbang: and its my pals last night out b4 she heads to CHCH on 22 Apr. Watch out CHCH, she's aff her heid! beware!
Just givin ya fair warning............

Hi there,
Bikern1mpho here (using Riffer's page). I have moved from the UK to NZ at the end of Jan. I am now working and living in Christchurch. I work for the Department of Corrections as a Programme Facilitator. I will be able to give you more advice once I have access to my internet email at work. PM either me or riffer can give you the email to contact me. Have you considered working within the field of psychology over here? What is your degree in, did you specialise at all. Feel free to drop me a line and I will give you as much help as I can. I can also give you some useful Corrections contacts if that would interest you.
