quad bike riders please either stay home or if you are going to ride slower than everyone else, could you please not block all the faster riders from getting past by taking up the whole trail on narrow sections and or stopping in the middle of the track in narrow sections or single line up hills. and dont go on expert sections that say no quads because that sign is there for a reason, and dont ride backwards on the track.

bloody hazards those things.

There are rides just about every weekend. Keep an eye on this site as well as Silverbullet as generally people discuss in detail for a few days as to where they are going (rant and rave that is).
As for motorbike parks the only legal ones in the Auckland region are The Kawasaki Sandpit (Woodhill), Kimmys and Thunder Valley out from Mercer.

ha ha its funny how some feel that way. at the Mr Motorcycles ride on 8th March thear was a huge quad turn out but i think i was slowed down more from stoping to help 2 wheel bikes that had overheating and/or needing get out of the mud. always bring a rope to help out others

thear are always going to be people slowing down others 2 or 4 wheeler not everyone rided at the same level and sometimes you can not pass a slower rider on a small track.

and thear are always the couple to just get in everyones way

woodhill a great place and the tracks are well looked after, ride mostly the loop track and the motorcross track are both are fast and wide or the super bowl but thats a bit too small for more that a couple of riders at a time

kimmys is great for the jumps on the motorcross track have loads of fun thear and the enduro track is ok as long as its not too dry just watch out for the mud hole around the mid of the track if you dont know how to jump it you could easly have a nasty off.

yeah im not saying i hate you an dont ride, im saying that quad riders need to be aware that they are riding wide machines, that often are slower and have a tendancy of blocking the tracks. i realise at times there is nothing that can be done, an example of last week was there was a guy on a quad who couldnt ge up a hill, so he stood beside it looing at it for a few minutes blocking the whole track causing everyone else to have to wait. ffs his quad was even facing back down the hill. the only thing he could do next was come back down.

an the riding backwards and the expert comment tie together. one riding backwards because he tried to take a quad on an expert section that said no quads, then had to ride back on the track to return. extra dangerous as the expert sections tend to have fast riders on them.

then there was the other backwards rider further on.

be safe.

I can see reasoning for people expressing their views like that over quad riders as they obviously take up a lot more room then 2 wheelers and in some hands can be rather slow , but after 4-5 years of riding in the Auckland/Waikato region over various types of terrain , I can honestly say that an experienced quad rider is usually up the pipe of a fairly large majority of 2 wheelers rather then a hazard on the trails and holding people up.

And then we have the dilemma of getting 4 wheels past a 2 wheeler  .

I accept that quad riders' stereotype isn't the best , but with the way the new machines have developed over the last 5-10 years vs. conventional 2 wheelers , the speed difference between the 2 is definitely decreasing making riding together that much more easier.

I usually stick with Woodhill and most of the trail rides put on within the Auckland/Waikato Region.
I would recommend checking out www.aatv.co.nz as it is a great club which has events at Kaukapakapa , Te Kauwhata , Gravel Sprints and Trail Rides in the Riverhead Forest and other various events around the North Island in which you may be interested in.They also have a Raptor Production Class which I assume may suit your bike.

oh well takes all sorts.

PS If you're so fast why arent you racing?

if you didnt notice a quad will never be nearly as fast as a "proper dirt bike" because the weight difference......

quads remind me of mobility scooters....... id only ride on if i was a paraplegic......

Sure quads are heavier and will never be as fast, but you have to remember quads have effectively more than 3 times the rubber on the surface , quite often substantially more power then 2 wheeler's(the bigger cc quads e.g Raptor's , Predators , Banshee's) and more stable under braking, so certain trails can suit quads down to the ground and therefore foot it with 2 wheelers just fine.

na, usually at the start if the day im riding with my mrs, - a beginner, i wait till shes had her fun then go out with the boys for a thrash later on once the noobs have cleared out

youll usually find the more skilled riders will ride around the noobs and kids and create ways off the beaten track to go around them without disturbing their ride. allthough there are some that just ride like the others arent there

and i do race, just not every weekend. on the racing off season / weekends between racing i like to go out on some trails.

My 10 cents- whether youre on a 2 or 4 wheeler - if you hear an engine catching up with you it means its faster than you.The best course of action is to move over and let him/her/them pass. Obviously its easier to pass a 2 wheeler in tight sections than a quad. Ive also noticed that the tires of a quad stir up way more dust(when dry obviously) than a two wheeler does. This sometimes makes it virtually impossible to pass because of the fear of hitting rocks/ruts/obstacles that you cant see due to the dust cloud they produce.Trail rides arent meant to be competitive - some go for the scenery-some go for the practice-some go for the fitness and others purely go for the excitement and fun and adrenalin.
If your passing someone - be courteous and if you are being passed - let them do it safely. Ive noticed a lot of riders will thank you with a wave or a "Cheers mate" when you let them pass.

I normally let the faster riders past then try and pace them but normally only lasts a few seconds

I have few friends that ride "homo-chariots" but they all know what sort of damage they can do and are very aware of us on two wheels even to the piont if theres a dusty section they will pull over and let us go first
Not all quad riders are clowns they just need the extra training wheels thats all its not there fault they were not hugged as children

My 2 cents

I agree with you. I am a quad biker and go to woodhill to have fun either going slow or fast I dont care.
If I hear or see another bike, I let them pass and carry on. Its just a good day out. If I want to go fast and race I jump on a real bike on the road to let loose there.

And plus quads are handy things, I have lost count the amount of times I have assisted, carred out or help recover a 2 wheeler. I just dont mind cause the majority of us, 2 wheels or 4 are there to have some fun.

mmm, yep, have spent a while reading all the posts on this thread, and thought I would add my 0.0001c. I am essentialy a dirt bike rider, and ride a crf450. I do not race, but am considered a compitent rider by the ppl I ride with, and do most trail rides on the NI. A couple of months back I bought two quads, 1 for me and 1 for my wife. I did this only to be able to spend more time with her doing something I love, although it had to take the form of quads, as she was never going to be able to ride dirt bikes considering she had never ridden a bike before. I still get my kicks on the trail rides on my crf, but now mix it up with alternative weekends out on the quads with her. The point I am trying to make, is that there is place for everyone who wants to have a good time on the trail rides, and simply because you think you are fast, good, whatever, it does not give anyone the right to think they own the ride and everyone else, quad rider or dirt biker, needs to get out their way when they coming. Yes, simple coutesy is most defenetily nessesary, if there is a place to pull over to let the faster rider through, do so indeed, but the flip side of that is that its not your right to have that courtesy shown. Lets get over the animosity between quad riders and dirt bike riders and we will all have a good day out, regardless of your riding speed or capability.
