FXR Tyres - Another FXR thread

Hey guys! I have been doing a bit of hunting for a new rear tyre for my FXR150 bucket. I have found a couple of tyre types but I am not totally happy with what I have seen. I have even been into shops and asked what I could get brand new.
So... what tyres would you recommend? I want a sticky as rear tyre! Anything close to a slick really. My front tyre will need replacing but not as urgently as my rear tyre!

The size of the tyre is a 110/80 17" (that's what it says on the current tyre).

I have heard that I could run a large front tyre on the rear too. As long as the tyre fits and will give awesome grip while hot and is nice and soft, then I am keen! I need the tyre for Easter weekend!

I have read this thread; http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=75959&highlight=fxr+tyre but I am not sure that the Dunlop TT900 or the BT39 would fit. So yeah, if you have any ideas or recommendations that would be cool! I will keep hunting, myself.

why not try a slick ????
you should find a 110-70-17 frount around easy ass just run it backwards

or get a rear slick of an rs125 120-70-17 ???? :laugh:

forget about road tires altogether if you can just fit dunlop slicks is what I would do

other people can tell me different but at Auckland I find that dunlop slicks
warm up nice and work (road tires TT900 stop working if it even thinks about raining) :blank:

Front wheel does the braking (slowing the bike down) rear wheel the driving (speeding the bike up). The stress forces in the tyre carcase pull in opposite directions front/rear so when they run a front on the rear they turn it around so the lay of the tyre carcase is working in the right direction for the stress being applied to it.

Thanks guys! I will keep looking for tyres, and will try snake up some slicks. Although I am worried that it is hard to get heat into them. Apparently tyre warmers are generally needed. But I have seen other buckets race with them so I will just trust my eyes I s'pose!

Really a 120 is to wide for the FXR rim and you don get a good profile out. I did it (or it may have been a 110 or 115, cant remeber) and you could see large chicken strips that was parts of the tyre no mater how hard I pushed I couldnt get to.

Dont even think about the 180:sweatdrop

The 120 will work, but not as well as it should, and given it all comes down to money at the end of the day, I would only be paying for a set ex gp125 or streetstock 150 slicks

Too wide if your running std rims. They're fairly old and quit pricey too. Look at paying $100 for a under year old ex 125 gp set, 95 front and 115 rear. You sould never need tyre warmers as slicks will out perform all or a least most street tyres in these sizes even when cold. If you struggle with tracking down some slicks Bridgestone BT39's are pretty good but VERY expensive when you should get some slicks for fook all.

I am now running tt900s on my fxr. I did have slicks but they are just the wrong size. The bike handles much better with the correct size tyer. A 120 slick on the rear on those rims gives you a really small contact patch. The tt900 warm up fast coz they have water groves in them and I love them in the wet.

My 2 cents. Been there done that.

You can have the one i took off my bike for cheap. I will go have a look at spec etc soon and get back to you.


OK Got a Dunlop 115/70/17 SR. Still got some life in it. Also got a Bridgestone 90/575/17. PM me if you are keen.
