You obviously understand now why jandals on bikes are to be frowned upon...

Those sturdy boots are not just for S and M.......:chase:

It used to happen to me so I changed my foot position and rest my toes on the pegs rather then the arches as I see many other riders do. I then simply move my foot forward to reach the gear or brake as appropriate. The peg should touch down first - and it does now.

Ooo no, that never happens. Your bike must be broken.

Don't have any problems with toes, but I have to watch out that my dick is slung on the upward side. HAd a few nasty grazes until I got the hang of flicking it over for each corner.

The only time my boots hit the ground is when 2up and usually happens in conjunction with a sharp pain in my ribs and/or back.

1up I ride with my toes on the pegs cause it is more comfotable and I dont like hitting the road with any part of my bosy.
2up I cant get my feet that far back cause there is just not enough physical room on the bike to do it so my toes are more prone to the ground.

Don't hang it around corners too much, it will affect your already healthy sex life.

I always thought this was just me
And then I noticed that the magnesium side-y scrape things Never actually touch the ground. Just the freaking tip of my sole first! :Oi:

My head touches the ground in corners - one each side.

I stop for corners, get off the bike and push it around. If bikes were made to go round corners they would have a form of stability control to prevent them tipping over.

Honestly, some N00bs ask the silliest questions, where do they get these ideas , an RRRS course?

So is that like po-tat-toes or po-tate-toes ... I guess it doesn't matter as long as you are enjoying yourself I guess, me ... I is so scared going around corners I prefer to let the bike do it for me!

The last time I touched my boot on the ground, it pinged up my toe guard and now its lost that little holding metal bit! :pinch:

Some of us girls even manage to do it....well, not this one coz I's a nana-rider, but I do know a lovely bitch who did it not so long ago ;)

It's why sports boots have little plastic bits on the outside of the toes - I guess they're called toe-sliders?

Finn

That's why the hardest of hard riders have to go down the cruiser path with forward controls. Our boot bills are just too high otherwise.

Although I must say that sometimes it's just so sedate that my foot just goes to sleep and falls off the peg. Gives me one hell of a fright.

Everytime around the track. Pegs, toes, boot sole, heels, gear lever, stand - but never my damn knees !

Who's up for helping me at Puke on Saturday - I think I'm not hanging off far enough

replaceable also.

I try not to by moving the ball of my feet onto the pegs, not the insteps

as for "knee down", move forward, bend arms, slide sideways, (you are looking around the corner) concentrate on smoothness and it will happen. Tust your tyres. It nearly goes without saying: do it on the track, not the road.

He'd have to tie a white flag to the end of it though wouldn't he?

Back when in I lived in Wellington I used to find that I mostly dragged my boots when I was on my way home from the pub...

Nowadays I wouldn't be seen dead doing that sort of thing, just in case I was...

That reminds me - yesterday I was down at the Viaduct and watched a guy on a Rocket3 (or is it III?) ride in. He dragged his left boot for 20 or so metres from the lights (just going slowly) and then turned sharply left to park, paddling furiously as he did so. Dunno iffen he was a noob, but he sure looked like one...

As for the "scraping your toes thing": I haven't done that in a very long time, apart from when I test-rode a crusier and then it was actually my heels. I always ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs in corners - apart from the extra clearance, it also gives you better control. I used to ride with them up all the time, but had to unlearn this good habit, as it's no good for my knees on long trips. I'm wonering now iffen I'll have to buy a crusier or DN-01 if they get worse, or trade the bike in on a mobility scroter. :shit:

Used to years ago on my old Kawasaki, did on a couple of cruiser test rides (this is some type of law I think).

Sometimes it feels like I am about to touch down but there is probably heaps left.

What I need to do is duct tape some little wire 'feelers' on my boots to see where that road is at!

Or get some of these boots - they come in classic black, Ducati or Honda red & the new KTM ones.

generally happens on the best, most involved rides, when I feel REALLY connected to machine/road, i take it as a sign that im riding better. so happy when i can do it.

I have stupidly big feet. That fact alone is why I have 2mm of chicken strip left on my front tire. Sigh.

On bikes with a low ground clearance (i.e NC30) peg scrapies are a fairly common occurance. I've had my peg and my knee on the road at the same time before (I know, I should be gauging with my knee to stop this happening)

Just tried to ball of feel approach today. Far easier to shift your bum across the seat, and managed to keep my knee pushed up against the frame still.

Still feels weird... Like you're gonna fly off by accident!

some rider s of belt driven air cooled veetwins have their knuckles scrape the ground,
thats why they fit ape hangers for better clearance:laugh:

My boots are worn on 1 edge from 2 trackdays at puke, but the foot pegs haven't even been touched because the peg swings back when my boot hits.
Didn't think this was a problem, til i found the scrape where the fairing had hit the ground (bloody wide bike)

I ride with the balls of my feet on the peg, and have a feeling that if I managed to scrape my toes on the ground it would be followed very quickly by the rest of my body.

The only time I've scraped my boots was on my old XL175. I'm sure that my SV has more suspension travel!

Mystic13
7th April 2009, 12:05
I ride with the arch of my foot on the peg and if I can see i'll be leaned over I pop the foot back so the ball of the foot is on the peg, on the side that's going down, then pop it back again.

As for knee down try youtube. Here's the MCN take on it. Now I just have visions of round-a-bouts all over the country being filled with bikers. There's one off SH1 at Tahuna that is usually pretty quiet. Have a friend keep watch and you can practise left and right.

Alternatively if you can get someone to whip up one of these frames up do you think there would be a lot of starters for a day of knee down.

I scrapped my boot many a time on my little GN when I had her, you would surprised how well a GN can corner. Not sure if thats a sign I was doing anything right, just that I was going to fast down the rimutakas. :(

happens to me at least 3 or 4 times when i go over the rimutakas, my bloody clod hoppers are too damn big to fit on the pegs properly, got to the point now on the akatarawa rd that i scrape the peg and my foot at the same time
