New shock

The Sth Island ride was the last straw for the shock. It got all wallowy with a load on and best of all my darling wife noticed it too. So when the subject of a new shock came up she thought it was a good idea too. So, hello Ohlins!
Robert's building up a 2nd hand shock, respringing it and fitting a hydraulic preload adjuster for considerably less than a new one.
I had thought of getting a Hagon, but there's been some recent reports that made me doubt their quality control and the Ohlins is not THAT much dearer.
Now I can't wait, I want it all and I want it NOW.

I'm interested too. I thought I'd give the bike a stainless exhaust and new shock before it turned 25 (which theoretically might be any time from now to the end of next year).

The XV has the shock under the seat with an alloy dial by the wheel. Would I be ditching the whole lot, have a chance of recondition, or be able to reuse the remote (to keep it original looking). I've never replaced a single so any advice you have would be useful.

I'm no expert, but I don't think you can rebuild shocks unless they have some means of repressurising them such as a piggyback or remote reservoir.
There may be more options for you though, Ikon etc.

Not true - Gebbe Bruin rebuilds Showa shocks, many of which are nitrogen/oil shocks. The repressurising is just done using a Schraeder (SP?) valve. I believe your man Robert may be able to do them too.

Read an article the other day, in M Trader I think, any way they reckon main prob with OEM shocks is the cheap alloy used on them...they actually expand under use. Whereas the higher quality ones have a very hard housing. They suggested alot of shocks are buggered after as little as 6000km!

you will love it. my new steeds got it too and its great. i havnt heard much about hyperpro but i believe lance lowe races with them.
