OK so my 5 year old daughter has taken quite an interest in me now getting back into bikes - she thought the KLX was nice and now likes the sound of the DR. Great I'm thinking, she's on the right track! :msn-wink:
So, the other night she comes and sits on my lap while I'm being a bad daddy and posting on KB - "what's that?" she says pointing at Padmei's avatar! So I explained what an avatar was and the relevance of Padmei's in particular!
The next afternoon we were in town at the shops, havin a nosey in an op shop (as ya do when skint!):
"Oooh daddy can I please have this, I want a new toy?"
I'm now VERY concerned she is not with the DR program and am administering nightly spankings until she repents!
(note how the over heavy front end is sinking! :bleh: )

Just wait till she's tall enough for her feet to reach the pegs
Then it will be "Daddy, can we go for a ride" and "Daddy, can I come too"
At least that's what I got Sunday morning :)

So if Gonzo is the 'face' of KLRs, what is the same for DRs??

Nice one.
So if Gonzo is the 'face' of KLRs, what is the same for DRs??
problem is that DR's are so bland there isn't really anything that characterizes them - other than a blank piece of A4 maybe. never park a dr650 in front of a white wall or you wont be able to find it when you return.
I think gonzo's an ideal 'face' for klr's - slow and ugly but lovable and the similarity between the beak line and the 08/09 front fender line is unmistakable...

Yep that's starting to happen, she's only 5 tho and not sure daddy is ready to handle the worry of whether she will hang on or not!

I haven't figured that out yet but mine certainly looks like a Darth Vader mobile! I'll work on it! :soon:

:Oi:
My all black DR would stand out against a white wall - cheeky bugger!
(although maybe it would only be because of the sun reflecting off the dents in the exhaust!)
AND btw, I was NOT trying to restart a KLR vs DR war; just the whole thing made me have a little chuckle so thought I'd share for a laugh to cheer up a workday - SO LAY OFF DR'S!!! (heehee!)

both my kids adore bikes - it's always a standing wave when I leave home for a ride. My (then) 18 month old son was able to climb onto my DR-Z in the shed more than once, turn the key, flick the kill switch and press the magic button to start it up. He loves bikes - walks around the house with my old helmet on. I've been 2-upping my older boy since he was 5, almost 8 now and has his own pegs on the back of the XRV... thinks he's the dogs bollix. good man-time, teaching them to be hard little bastards rather than little X-box mincers as they grow up.

Yeah tis a definite problem: I administer the spanking and the cheeky mare says "but daddy I really like that silly bent over nose" ! I need to come up with a suitable DR mascot so she can see the comparison of something HOT versus that ugly critter!

Let's go to a track day and duke it out then! :girlfight:

That lil girl'll go far in life. :niceone:
My lil angels (4 1/2 & 6 1/2) have accepted gonzo into the family. I started off taking them down the drive to the letterbox ( about 300m) in front of me & now regularly take them out on it - The eldest behind & the lil one in front with feet on the crashbars & hanging on to handlebars.
They love the whole thing of their own helmets - visor up visor down visor up etc...
Paladin I wouldn't worry about your girl liking the KLR - my lil one wanted me to buy a Lifan 400 cruiser cos it had the 'daddy seat' & the (domed queenseat) 'kids seat'.

No, no, no! If the spankings don't work I am moving on to electro shock therapy and if that still doesn't sort it she is having a frontal labotomy! It's a psychotic episode and it must be cured I tells ya!
:msn-wink:
I live in a cul-de-sac so I have a safe environment to start popping her on the DR so I might do, and lets face it if all the shock therapy doesn't cure her of her evil delusions, rides on a REAL bike will sort it I think!
p.s. cool that your lil ones like ya bike! :2thumbsup
Just wait till see is old enough to want her own real bike...
I used to take my daughter riding on the back, when she was 10 I taught her to ride the XT250....now she is about to step up to a SV650K9 (Full faired) Gulp, its a nightmare time for a Dad when that happens....especially if you recall how you rode at that age...

Yeah that's funny I'd be keen on getting them some bikes (well I can say that now without the wife reading this) however when I mentioned it to them they weren't too impressed until the llil one sat on a pw50 & really liked it. Only prob will be getting them in pink.

Katherine has been allowed to ride on the bike since she was six or seven, when she could touch the footpegs (foot flat). Get em while they're young I say. :wari: She has her own helmet & jacket, & regularly rides with her mother. Not shy about asking for rides. However not so keen on longer rides, and probably less keen on the KTM seat than the look (no issues with the BMW however).
She is likely to inherit her mothers scooter when Mandy is ready to move on up.
Cheers, Steve.

My oldest son first came on the road with me 2 weeks after his 5th birthday! :Punk: before that we were trail riding down the river!! He is now 13 & still loves going riding with mum!! He learned to ride when he was 6! :2thumbsup
My youngest has his own bike at dads.. he is 6! although.. he hasn't been riding much over summer, coz he says "the grass is too dry & I can't do skids"..
Mind you.. with a bike nut mother like me.. they don't really stand a chance NOT to be bikers aye!!!

My 2 girls love riding on the back of the bike. Havn't got them keen to ride one yet:(
My boy started riding at 10 or 11 on an AG100, then Streetstock racing at 13. First rode my 600 race bike at 15. He's 16 now and still hasn't got his bike licence - he reckons road riding will muck up his racing.... Oh to be 16 and have that many choices. Never mind, he still enjoys riding on the back of my bike

OK you two, that's enough of that, I ALMOST had to go get a tissue! If you make me go all soppy I won't be in the right frame of mind to administer tomorrows spankings, let alone electro-shock therapy to my 5 yr old and she must be sorted out now while young before she develops bad habits(like her dad ) or more bad taste! :msn-wink:
You have all convinced me - I need to get her a helmet and get her a DR fetish asap!! Thank you friends! :grouphug:
(which would be good as her skinny little bum just makes my hand hurt so the spankings are just annoying for me too! )
This is my lass on a friends hyper...she gets her own SV in a few weeks, blue full faired K9 in Auckland....watch out up there.

Put her in front first so she feels a bit more secure with daddy behind her & get her used to the leaning of the bike. Then put her on the back.

That's sorted it - TOTAL and UTTER conversion to DR!!!! :msn-wink:
Just gave the 5 & 3 yr old daughters a few goes round the cul-de-sac on the DR; 5yr old on the back and 3 yr up front (separately I might add!) and both loved it so now have made rod for my own back! Actually the eldest could reach the pegs easy and was nice and comfortable on the back, so guess I had better buy her a helmet for a surprise.
Apparently I went "super fast" like Rocket on Little Einsteins  so I now have smiley daughters to hand back to their mum shortly; who I'm sure will read me the riot act for taking them on the bike heehee! :Pokey:

Uh oh...not looking good there Dave...my wee girl developed the taste for speed at that age too....I came home from work and learnt she had been in a real shirty all day. I was looking after a Subaru SVX 3.3 rocket at the time, so "Right Possum you n me out to the car NOW!
I strapped her in and drove nice and slowly out and down the road to a 1 km deserted straight and stopped at one end.
She did not speak a word, still with the harumph sour face. Then I floored it, well did that little rocket ship shuffle or what?....Two weeks later, she still had that wide eyed grin plastered all over her face and now 18 years later, nothing is fast enough.
Sorry Dave there is no turning back now, your daughters are scarred with the bug for life now.
