well after 2 thirds in the final round I won the series for the pro twins class. absolutly stoked in only my second season. Thanks to all my supporters and advice givers.
Also finshed 6th overall for the series in F2 and first non 600, even though i didnt finish either race in the final round.
DNS due to plug coming loose and bike wouldnt start and a crash on the last lap of the second F2 race.
Had a great battle with michael law all race when I lost the front over the blind crest at turn 4. No big deal, unhurt and only minor damage to the bike. Question for those in the know. Ive read the keith code book, and I remember that front end slides are from overloading the front tyre and the best way to recover from them is to jam your knee into the deck or open the throttle or both. I may be wrong but it felt like my front end slid when it unloaded over the crest, if im correct then knee/throttle unloads it more so wouldnt work.
so question is how would you recover from this situation?

Top skills Scroter. I have a vague memory of Keith Code also mentioning that the front can unload during fast direction changes and over crests. Good suspension set-up and throttle control are bound to be the solutions. How it's actually done though is a bloody mystery to me. There are some pretty tricky corners at Taupo but getting them right must be pretty satisfying. Keep it up.

throttle control - cracked on like keith says
suspenion set up - non existent standard SV650 suspension plus pirelli diablo tyres.
I think minute 45's might be all she's good for.
time for some decent mods i think. anyone wanna give me a blank cheque?

That's pretty good on a stocker SV mate....especially considering the state the track was in.

I can write you a rubber one? The blind crest one is actually T5....the trick with that one is to have your turning done earlier so you're straighlining (a bit) the crest and leaning less when you go over it. I wish someone had told benk that tho :bash:
I must say I'm looking forward to seeing young Chris Fry in action in the wet again.

The blind crest one is actually T5.....
Is it really, funny how Its only the fourth turn the bike makes. I wonder how they work that out.

Start line, push bike left at T1.
Push bike right at T2.
Push bike left at T3
Push bike...right at T4...over blind crest. Oh...my bad. I can't count.
The grass on T4 is really sandy and hard and you can normally keep the bike upright and get back on the track if you run wide.
T5 is fookin deceptively fast and has loadsa camber BTW.
Hmm...young boys in wet leather. Watersports bike racing anyone?

that turn is tricky. ive had the front squirming as it unloads, recover, then squirm when it reloads on the other side.
As scarcha alludes too, turn late, square it off and use the gas going over.

thanks guys, youve confirmed my own thoughts, which is pleasing, i guess if your gonna crash its always nice to know why. Now I just have to work out how Im gonna get round it without crashing and without costing lap time, I will try some of your theory's, they make sense as far as the not crashing goes, the real problem is I didnt think I was going through the corner any different than before and made it without even a hint of slide. I guess I need to upgrade the bike as well, I know theres more laptime in me but i just dont think there is much left safely in the bike. I think you forget how fast these corners are until you slide along them on your ass. Im not afraid of crashing per say but you cant do a very fast lap time on the deck, and I think we would all rather not crash, I know my wife dont like the idea.

I didnt think I was going through the corner any different than before and made it without even a hint of slide.
You can spend a whole day going around a corner but there are dozens off variables affecting the forces that keep you rubber side down. Track temp could have dropped, your shock could be overheating, your tyres may go off, there might be debris on the track, wind direction may change, your brake may be sticking, you may be putting an extra 0.5 kilo on the inside peg, etc etc. If you're pushing a bike near its limits (or to be more realistic, your limits) then from time to time you're gonna crash.
Sometimes $hit just happens...we at the amateur end of the field sometimes get lucky enough to recover from a slide. Even the skillfull guys at the pointy end of it sometimes land on their arses. Don't beat yourself up about it.

Scroter--I dunno a lot about theories but but on occassion Ive had my knee buried in the deck as the bike feels like its gonna lose the front. maybee Im holding the bike up I dunnno.
