I heard from a pig hunter just the other day about a massive 80 metre waterfall that is in the hills on a straight line between Katikati and Te Aroha.
he saw it about 15 years ago
I asked a pilot mate of mine and he confirmed that it is there and is huge and seems to have tracks nearby. So I got my maps and google earth out. Yep its all marked, with tracks too. it is marked as Ananui falls
So now Im looking for two or three hard bastards to come find it with me!
It looks about 20km from the road end between Waihi and Katikati.
I reckon that 4 riders would be the best number and I reckon that sooner rather than later would be the time before the big rains come.
Blacksmith? Dafyyd? Pricy? -you guys are in the area- what do you say?
For anyone who has seen Bridal veil falls near Raglan- this one is 18 metres higher!

Its a fairly easy walk from the carpark to the falls...about 35 mins.
EXCEPT for the huge, fuck-off staircase that goes up the side of the cliff below the first lookout which will kill your thighs. Worth it though.

Walk! what is this walk of which you speak?
and 35 mins!!! its about 12 km as the crow flies from the end of Taiere road.
EDIT: - I just looked on the map- you must have come in from woodlands road end - that way is all uphill following the river, we will come in from over the top (cos thats how we do things here) he he.

Ha, ha. Reminds me of a 4WD trip I did years ago up north. About 30 vehicles were stopped for lunch and this "save the planet" freak was trying to show everybody some old Maori ruin which basically consisted of a hole in the ground and a shit load of shells up a bank where they obviously sat, ate and beat their children. When everybody was leaving, I got excellent grip on those shells as I tore up the embankment to great applause.

we last rode the stadia track a couple of years ago, it was knarly and lots of fun, have driven passed there a few times and looks as if the track may have been bladed over, also there is now an armco barrier across the carpark area on the other side of the road with a much smaller area to park behind (but now with some fresh metal) - limited parking only.
