Something about a twisty mountian road and a Moto Guzzi that puts that opening song from The Italian Job in my head (On Days Like These by Matt Monro).

What about y'self?

Whatever happens to be rattling round my head that day. Too often it's the annoyingly catchy theme song from one of the cartoons my kids have been watching. Grrr.

Other times Bon Jovi is there "on a steel horse I ride"

Hey we both used to sing that song at the top of our voices on the way back from Lower Hutt after a beer or 17. I thought of putting that song down but people generally don't share our sick sense of humor.

Great thread...
Hum / sing etc whatever I'm listening to at the moment. Right now I am in the middle of recording an album which has a real Weller / Dylan feel to it, so Weller's 'Bullrush' and Dylan's 'Rolling Stone' is getting shouted at a lot

I find that really odd about the North Americans.

You can't say C U Next Tuesday, but calling everyone you don't like a MF is perfectly acceptable.

I believe the C word to be far less offensive.

Astride the Mighty GN I am often wont to hum "Ride of the Valkyries"

Strange but true- esp at night heading back down the Wainui Hill.

Keeps me amused at least.

I find I usually arrive refreshed at my destination after approximately 30 minutes of chanting it.

I've had the theme from the old spacies game "Moon Patrol" when I ride down SH22 ...

"I'm a little teapot" when I am waiting at the lights and doing the actions ...

"Ride of the Valkyries" for those inspiration hill rides ...

"It's the final countdown" during those turbulent moments ...

"Remember you're a Womble" pootling along a nice bit of shore ...

"Ave Maria" coming onto a majestic view of God's own ...

"She'll be coming around the mountain" around the Forgotten Highway ...

"Imperial March" when riding in a large group ...

... ahh, the music dial in my head is completely eclectic and flicks on to whatever happens to be next in queue when I am bop bop bopping along! :innocent:

If I'm in a "I love the v-twin rumble state" then I like to hum Pinky Floyd's "Shine on you crazy diamond", otherwise it's like 98tls says, let the machine do the music for you !!!!

ummm...concentration on the road, traffic, weather conditions etc is what we are supposed to be upto...isn't it? Distractions like songs rattling round in ya brain are the last thing you need. :bye:

When riding, I absolutely love singing the song of the Viking from "Sadko":

The Song of the Viking by Rimski-Korsakov

The lyrics can be roughly translated as follows:

The sea waves rage against the rocks
but broken they retreat in a cloud of spray
And the rocks steadfastly withstand
this ceaseless assault of the sea
Proudly standing above the water

Those steadfast rocks are in Vikings' very bones
and the raging sea is in their veins
And their cunning thoughts are like fogs of their motherland
They are born of the sea and in the sea they will die

Vikings' swords are sharp and their arrows are true
bringing a swift demise to the enemy
Courageous are the people of the northern lands
Mighty is Odin their god
and their sea is cruel

Pretty cool, aye?

Normally the song in my head is the last song i hear in the shower. If i dont have the radio on i wont get a song in my head for the whole day.

i generally have ipod playing, so mostly im singing along to sister hazel and shawn mullins. just a shame they arent better known over here. i can safely thank shawn for making high school somewhat bearable. the only thing that kept me going was his album souls core.
i also make sure i have leaving on a jet plane and i am, i said... just cant go without them when riding... they have the same effect as shawn and sister hazel. they have the added bonus of reminding me to not ride beyond my limit and that anything can happen.

sister hazel video: champagne high http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnFc7MRZgDI
mandolin moon is a better song, but theres no video for it yet.

shawn mullins video: beautiful wreck http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1r_uwsHPl8&feature=PlayList&p=F93F389D06210E07&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=6
