I'm not much of a fan, usually, of BMW's but this is a work of art.

(it's a 1934 R7 BTW)

Sinhgle drum brake at front, gawd knows what at back....sweet fuck all suspension, and looks like a 2 speed gear change...nah mate, not for me!

I wasn't looking at it from a riding point of view (its a 75 year old design!) more just art for arts sake

It's totally awesome and those that don't get it should be made to poo upside down. The R7 was a prototype and didn't enter production, but BMW located one of the prototypes and restored it to as new condition. I think it would be a hoot to ride, and the tose top spec 30s bikes are always faster and more fun than you think they'll be.

35HP, 176kg, 3 speed box, 800cc - sounds like a Suzuki cruiser.

I love the shapes and forms that 20s and 30s designers and architects came up with.

I like this modern interpretation of Streamline Moderne.

Some how this bike just reminds me of the Fonz. Why the producers picked a Trump when this was on..............eludes me.

Yep nothing to do with art deco but this came up in an art deco search.

Another bike with a strong art deco flavour. Somehow I just don't see the rider of this in leathers. More like a pinstripe blazer with a boater tootling along to the local reggatta.

I saw this on the SA forums a couple of weeks ago.

It is a stunning machine for the era.

From the poster 5cv = Five Cheveaux or 5 horsepower. That's even less then my Ducati. I feel vindicated somehow....

This is just simply gorgeous.
1934 BMW R7, a one-off 800cc twin.
Recently rediscovered and a huge restoration effort by BMW to bring it back to life.
Full story of it here: - http://www.bmbikes.co.uk/photopages/photosr7.htm

My 1936 R17 has very similar performance to the early /5 series apart from the cornering because of those awful cast aluminium footplates I had to get from the UK. Each rocker has dual roller bearings and whole thing is beautifully engineered. The mudguards are the same as the R7. My bike is believed to be the 1936 Olympia show bike and is now in the BMW Museum. It was too rare to ride. Good to see the R7 reborn.

I have a heap of colour photos on a large sheet which need to be blown up and put on digital. Only I have no idea who does this.
I bought the R17 in England from a garden shed for $200 and shipped it home. It took me about 8 years to restore it although it was very complete when I bought it. There are a few pre-war BMWs in NZ of various models but they are not very exciting.

That's a great looking bike. So different to anything else that was being made at the time.

Mind you, BMW has designed some real weird looking bikes.

Innovative. And they got that one right by the look of it.

Thats real nice, a bike you could just put in the house and stare at for hours. Stuff the telly Id be glued to that for a good while, it is a form of art huh.

Couldn't be arsed finding the original thread but this was too full of awesomeness to pass up:

All I know at the moment is that it was originally a 1930 Henderson
