Went to my mates to show him my bike as he only lives down the road. Was about to leave but i knew he wanted a ride so i said go on but if you drop it your paying for it. Sure enough he drops it as it was on grass and he was going too fast. The damage? Cracked fairing and windshield, bent brake pedal and something else is bent making the front wheel point off center. I managed to ride it the couple of k's home. So my questions are..

Does anyone know roughly how much to plastic weld the fairing? I told him a new one is around $700 but i would obviously rather plastic weld if possible.

What is causing the wheel to be off center? Probably hard to tell without seeing it but it was a real slow low side just dug into the dirt which is why its bent i guess.

Im probably being a bit vague and i didn't really know which section to put this in :shifty:

my thoughts are worry about the wheel alignment first then the plastics, if thats stuffed then it aint gunna much fun to ride... check your forks, is there any bend in the upper tubes?

Doesn't appear to be any bend in the tubes. Im going to try and take the front fender off to get a better look at everything but it doesn't look that easy.

Setting front wheel alignment isn't easy if you have never done it before, normally the fork legs twist in the mounts and the clip ons move around..
Ignore clip ons for now and eye the legs / wheel... crude get home method is hold front wheel between legs and twist the opposite..
lossen clips on off and align with a tape measure / equal distance from centre..
There is a bit in getting it all straight but if your not sure get someone who has done it before to cast their eye over it or take it to a bike shop.

As for the plastic bits there will be plenty of plastic repair guys up your way, do a ring around and find out who repairs bike fairings, someone will.
Welding cheap / painting is the dear bit.

Lesson learn't. Don't let your mates ride your bike. Put the front wheel between your legs and twist the bars to the side to correct the steering.

All would have been good he just thought he could go as fast as he does on his little bike that has knobbly tires.

Im starting to think i can repair the fairing myself. Its an old bike and i dont care too much about the looks and i think it could be quite fun.

I've got these pages to help me out

http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/One_man%27s_fairing_repair

superglue and baking soda works well for repairing cracks.

superglue and baking soda works well for repairing cracks.i wasn't sure if you were taking the piss but a quick search around and im quite liking this idea. Only problem is the crack is pretty darn big as you can see in the photo and i think the photo only shows half of it. But if i could fix it with superglue and baking soda i would be more than happy

It would fix that ok,
just sand and champhere(spelling) edges, can use alot on the inside and only a do a fine line on the outside..its pretty bloody strong
have fixed up a few cracks and broken tabs with it..+ filled in some missing
fairing..

And its bloody cheap to do.. I used the cheap 6pack of glue from M10 $6ish

oh and it pays to make sure the fairing edges are line up perfectly.......I know now.....
