Just as I'm singing the praises of my new bike pants (see http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=96616) today when I was doing them up the zip pull on the fly broke!! :gob:

I can still wear them but want them repaired cos I've only had them for 6 days! Anyone got any recommendations? I reckon the whole zip will need replacing.

The guy I bought them off has said: "That's not so good what say I send you $20 toward the repair save loosing on the shipping cost", I've said I'll get a couple of quotes cos I get the feeling a new zip will cost more than $20.

Yes. Take them back to the shop and get a new pair. Don't stuff about repairing them.

I bought them via Trade Me, so not from a "shop" as such - private sale but advertised as "new".

Would I have to cover p&p costs if I was sending them back to him in Auckland due to a fault?

Yeah, no point complaining via Tardme, once they've got their money they don't care if your pants had a small nuke in them and you took out Petone. Not their problem.

Contact the person you bought them from. Are they an individual or a bike shop/bike gear business advertising on trademe? Your first port of call should be the people who stole your money. Errr, the person you bought the pants from.

Settle Gettle, if a zip breaks we replace the Zip not the whole pant or jacket etc, but we take care of the issue.

Yes I was aware of Tardme's attitude.

He's an individual and were having a rather interesting conversation where he is trying to basically get out of paying for the repairs. At least he's communicating which is a good sign and I don't believe I'm covered by the "Consumers Guarantees Act" because it's a private sale.

Trade me sales are final. If you have broken the zip, then you have to repair it.
She wasnt asking about her rights as a consumer or anything like that... She was asking where a good place to get her pants fixed is. Can anyone suggest anyone?
Id say check out Celtic Leathers (google him). You could send to him and he can fix them. And do a bloody good job too.

Edsers Shoe repairs in Upper Hutt can fix most things - they repaired motocross boots which I thought were beyond salvage so I'm sure a zip replacement would be a trifle to them

...your pants had a small nuke in them and you took out Petone.

As in, "There's nothing wrong with Petone that a small thermonuclear detonation wouldn't sort out"?

I thought that was Newtown, anyway. And it was a direct meteorite strike.

Oi! Nuffink wrong with either of those suburbs! 1 I currently reside in and 1 I previously was a resident of. :p I think that may be why JD referred to said suburb.

well exactly, nuking Petone (via thermonuclear pants or otherwise) would be a right shame.

Newtown, however...

it's not just me, even this slightly smug curmudgeon thinks so :)

I know this thread is getting a bit stale now but I thought I'd put my 2c in!

So here's the scenario. The other day, out cruzn, the zip broke on my leather pants...by broke I mean the whole bloody zipper attachement snapped and came off! Never mind I thought as I'll just get them fixed later.
Anyway, next thing I know I run out of gas, so I reached down and flicked the reserve switch. Never mind I think, i'll just grab some gas.

I stopped in at BP in J'ville and hopped off the bike. I look down and fark me but my bits are sticking out for everyone to see! (the bright red undies under black leathers probably don't help!) I shuffle into the servo (which is absolutely packed!) and everyone turns around and looks down.....I practically had to explain to the whole shop that the zip had just broken....mmmm....not one of my high moments!

Anyway, short story long, I took it to The Leather Shop in Porirua. I dropped it off at 5pm on Monday and picked them up at 1pm today! The service was awesome and they replaced the whole zip for $30! Looks really good now....
