Quite a while, the elevation of the bars helps to keep your back straight (refer back to the pic). I know of @ least one guy with a set of bars similar to these that has ridden his harley round the south island with no problem !! Obviously not a bike for seriously high speeds though.

This isn't my cage, and I'm not knocking the T-Bars, although in my opinion (which i am entitled to) they look abit silly. For what purpose do they serve?
I just saw this on the northern and thought the rest of the KB community here may have appreciated the picture.

Fishtail exhausts, heh, cool.
Seeing the bars that high up makes you see the bike in a different light -- if you hold your hand over the bars so it's only the bike in view (no handlebars cluttering up the top of the bike), how cool does it look? Then picture some clip-ons under the top yoke. Now that's a cruiser that works for me.

I saw what looks to be the same bike on Thursday afternoon around the Hobson St southbound onramp. Yes it does look a bit out of the ordinary, I imagine it would not be very comfortable to ride for long distances/times and be hell to do tight, low-speed maneuvers, but hey, the guy's out enjoying riding his bike, which he is probably very proud of, and really, that's all that matters. Keep riding!! :ride:
There used to be a unwritten biker rule about minding your own business. Unfortunately, this seems to have been forgotten nowadays.
That sounds interesting, I never knew! What degree of "minding one's own business" though? If a biker looked to be broken down at the side of the road, does a passing biker just mind his/her own business and ride on past? Or was it just a sort of not passing judgement on other peoples' rides kind of minding one's own business?

It's really NOT about the bike; it's about the person riding it.
If that person in the thread photo were riding a BMW, my derision would be identical.
I have noticed though, that many HD owners on KB are overly sensitive and defensive, when any negative comments are made about the brand, or just someone riding it. Why is this. ? You can say anything you like to me about BMW. It's not personal - It's just another bike. Have a go at Suzuki too. I love it.

Is there a regulation stipulating maximum riser here?
Ixion
14th April 2009, 10:53
No, nothing specific. WoF could get you on the general requirement of "the vehicle requires unreasonable force to steer or the steering is unreasonably stiff rough or light". Or on fixing - it would be hard to stop those bars flexing in their mounts. A cop could maybe get you on the general "does not have sufficient control of the vehicle". But no specific riser regulation.

That bike is pretty cool. Used to love choppers with ape hangers when I was a kid. Dunno if I'd ever ride one though. My mate who I showed that photo to exclaimed "You know why you always see outlaw types riding with those bars don't you?" to which I had to ask why. His reply was priceless......
"Saves time when the coppers yell hands up!"

Looking at how dirty the bike appears he looks like he actually rides it. Unlike some here.
Yeah some of us are pretty anal...I ride, then I clean my bike, polish it, stand back and sigh...then the next day...I wash the bike cause the dog licked it, then I polish it again, stand back, polish a couple of spots I didn't quite get...then sigh...then go for a ride. When I get home I wash it again and polish it lovingly...I love my bike... :done:

Cool site.
For some reason it says my odometer is close to a million K though :o/
The thing I find odd is he has the mirrors mounted on the top of the bars. Usually when a modified bike is to remain road legal, and thus have mirrors even though the bars are super high, the mirrors get mounted upside down and slung from the underside of the bars.
Style wise, I think those fish tails should turn upwards.
