My cool plastic number plate

so i have a cool plastic number plate, its reflective and able to be seen from the corect distance away clearly. so myself and my favourite bike shop figured no worries....well...
it got me a two hundred dollar fine, im told only the tin ones are aloud, i really did think it was ok, no other cop cared, i think he was just being picky, i mean how many stick on ones do you see on cars... he was just a prick! it was the whole reason i was pulled up, as i was just cruzing in my home town, in town, under 50k.he wouldnt listen to my reasons as the last broke from vibrations, his whole take was your just trying to make it hard for me to see, so there for easyer to burn me off like all the bikes do, i know your type. yer my bike could too, but he wouldnt listen to reason, i was just lumped in with others doing a runner.after all this i was looking at car plates in a 50k zone and you cant read there rear plate as they go past, and a speed camera can zoom in on a rego, so quit being a dick, no wonder motorists get pissed at these small stuipid things.
yer it seems he is right and i have no case, fear call. but most reasonable police people wouldnt care. and havnt before.
and its now this sort of thing that makes me think, well i might as well burn this guy off next time, why stop, isnt it worth a go,(however i dont know the penalty if caught?) many cops have told me it happens all the time and the bikes arnt caught. if im doing more than 140 your gunna take my bike, theres allways something! so if i feel my chances are good in the right place and time, i think im going to try, i kinda feel pushed into this action.

yer, like i said, fear call. my main intent was to warn others with the same false thinking about number plates that arnt the standard tin ones. including the sticker ones that people use on there car front bumper.
i thort mine was legal.

I read some where they have to be embossed but did not really say much else...

If a plain plastic reflective plate was legal dam I could make a new one for every ride with a different rego every ride then

Hmmm... I was leaning towards a little sympathy until you ended it with this shite. Those who do runners (bikes or cars) tend to cause death and carnage - and then we blame the Police for it as if its their fault that they gave chase.

This whole pulling out of pursuits when it gets too dangerous bollocks pisses me off. Its because of dumbarse back office rules like this that people have reason to run from the cops and drive or ride like maniacs. If the rule was that the cop(s) will be on your tail until you pull over or run out of gas then there would be less who would attempt going beyond their capabilities. As it stands many people will purposefully ride / drive faster and more dangerously in order to conclude the pursuit.

How do we let these rules that de-testiclise our Police get into force...? Next thing you know they wont be allowed to chase runners at all and the standing orders will be that Police must wait patiently for the crim to return and willingly hand themselves over.

And because of that they'll legislate that we all have to have remote kill switches fitted to our vehicles that can be activated by the cops giving chase. And then speed limiters and then..... and then....

This is just nonsense. If you display the correct digits with the right spacing and colours, the actual material should be irrelevant. Plastic is a lot safer in an accident situationand I suspect that the cop was just being an idiot (unless there was another reason?).

From our great lands legislation.

The distinguishing marks on a registration plate shall be—

*

(a) Embossed, and coloured aluminium on a black background; or

*

(b) Embossed, and coloured black against a reflective background consisting of white retro-reflective sheeting,—

and the base material of a registration plate shall be aluminium.

Of course this doesn't mean you can have a black plate with silver letters/numbers on your 2009 boke/car as these are only allowed up to a certain cut off date.

Tis really much easier and cheaper just to comply with the rules in this case. They don't make it hard to get a replacement plate.

The trick is to not do something so blatantly illegal that'll get you called out. Blend in with the crowd. If you stand out, you'll get hammered down. I expected the more experienced riders to have figured this one out by now.

You're right because all runners end well. There is no chance of getting caught, no chance of having a accident, no chance of losing your bike.

Easier and cheaper fix for you buddy, is to make an aluminium backing plate the same size as your plate to be fitted behind your rego plate. Fix it and the plate securely to your bike, hey nonny nonny, cops no looky, plate no breaky...................

Works for my mates with Guzzis, Monsters, Buells, etc.
