View Full Version : Wheelies the last Chapter??

OK I can wheelie now. Yes 1st or 2nd I can get it up. But now I need the final part.

I can keep them up for about 4-5 seconds but I want to keep them up for much longer. I have not done gear changes yet, nor have I truly hit the balance point yet. So what I need is the final tuition/pointers to crack it. Any ideas????

Lots more practice.... you can feel the balance point, and then it only take minor throttle adjustments to keep it there... but learning where the balance point is and how to get there takes practice....

wow 4 to 5 seconds thats not bad at all! i would aviod doing them in first gear! especially on your bike thats when things could possibly go pear shapped! to change gear yuo really need to be atleast at balance point! all about throttle control . just keep practising !

yes I am sure it's all down to practise I am just looking for a short cut if there is one, which I doubt.

Well if anyone wants to go out and practise with me the invitation is there.

Yes mate, the forecast for the weekend is primo. So may well be an opportunity to go out and do the thing. Got a mate on 636 who would be up for it too.

I haven't thought as far ahead as 26 th but yes I enjoy the track days.

when ya lift it up in 2nd, just roll the throtle(just a fleas dick) and the roll off the same amount, you will start to feel a "sweet spot" where you dont need to give it as much gas to stay up, and hey presto you have found balance point, takes heaps of straight road........but good fun learning:banana:

well keep in touch on here and i will meet you guy for a spin sometime ! yep open day on the 26th thats two saturdays from now ,, i have a few mate who are keen and i havent had my zx10 on the track yet am interested how much faster/better handling it is than my last bike (gsxr750), i know it will definantly be faster down the back straight but curious to know how it will go around the rest of the track,, also might put some slicks on!

Unless I'm on the 2 stroke, I'm blardy hopeless at wheelies. Never had much problems with stoppies though. However I think I'll stick to doing it all on a crappy old 2 stroke and leave the CB for the open road...

swanman, i may be keen to have a go as my wheelies are non-existant. every time i pissed around trying them i got frustrated with my lack of control and just reverted to riding the thing normally again. when are you doing some?

The answer is very often. I was recently made redundant and suddenly have too much time on my hands while I am looking for a job. What I am doing is about 2 evening a week I go out before dark on a local back road and practice away.

Keeping your chain properly tensioned makes them more consistent and controllable. Not that my wheelie ability is anything to write home about... but something I've noticed :)

Brookln hill is good for doing wheelies up, you allready hae a bit of slope so you dont have to use so much throttle to find balance point and the landing is smoother. Alot of stunt riders have a kinda plate like a VERY heavy license plate that hits the ground when the bike goes just over the balance point, slowing the bike down and helping avoid it looping.

howdy.. :spudwave:
hell yeah, I'm going to puke on the 26th, also Taupo on April 10..
I think the rest of the guys on the track might get a bit pissed if you keep slowing down to do wheelies on the track tho, so can't see how that'd help, but all the same, it's fukin good..
The road we did tonight Swanny, we should have just spent half an hour going from one end to the other.. hell, I could do with the practice (and a new back tyre)..

The "VERY heavy license plate" is actually an extension of the Sub-Frame which they call a 12 O'clock bar. Sounds kinda lame... the could have called it a Suicide Bar or something tough like that ;)

It's called a 12 bar cos the bike is pointing straight up when it hits the ground - ie 12 o'clock..
I'll PM you guys - Swanman etc with my cell num, cos I wanna go out for a (stunt) ride with some other people - it kinda sux goin by yourself.

Can he do them on a GSXR250? :-)
Can anyone?!

Ive tried lots of combinations on my pussy little bike but short of popping the clutch at 17000, nothing seems to work. Dont think its quite the right sorta bike for it ay! :-)

My mate tried to do some on my other mate's GSXR250 just to see if it could. Didn't come up the first time but he did a near 12 wheelie on his second try. It wasn't a fluke either cause this dude can wheelie almost anything.

You'r right though, it's not the best bike for wheelies.

in theory, can't you wheelie almost anything?

Groomer, try movin your arse to the back of the seat, or further back at least, to shift the centre of gravity back, and let the clutch out a bit quicker each time.. how knackered is your clutch..?

I've seen a lot of wheelies, anything from a 50cc moped scoota, to a Goldwing once.. fairly sure it was..

clutch is sweet.
how many millions of revs should i be roughly starting with? Theyve got no balls til at least 12-14000.
Just doesnt seem to want to lift unless you literally drop the clutch.
