Just reading Thani's post about going to Taupo and back on Friday, and considering other similar posts by other 250 riders....

...I am impressed at the distances that some of you go. Back when I was doing my time on the wee beastie below (good gawd - I was a gixxer rider, the shame) I never went more than 100ks or so.

Granted most of the time I was stoned and on the way to/from a pub, but even in the cold light of day it never occurred to me to travel any real distance on the wee thing.

I just waited out the 6 months and took off when I had the full sized bike.

Kudos too you all I say

unfortunately the gubbermint decided to add ridiculously long periods of time onto getting a licence if your not above the wise age of 25.

I wonder if it's just that you prefer to go further. On my 250 I'd wander Wellington to Aucks as the longest ride. I still prefer the long rides. Several months back I bought a 250 for my wife and had to fly then ride the thing from New Plymouth to Aucks. It bought back a lot of memories because you ride differently. For starters it takes forever to pass a truck.

Had a ride recently with some guys I don't usually ride with. Left Auckland on a long ride to the lower North Island and bugger me they had to stop in Pirongia for a coffee, then Te Kuiti, then Taumarunui, then .... Rawhiti? and so on.

Never stopped so much in my life. I usually go for the stop when empty thing.

After my recent 250 long ride I know I certainly don't miss the thing.

Bought my Hyosung Comet GT250 from 'Radar' in Masterton and rode it up to Akl a couple months ago. This baby practically flies, even if the revs are sitting between 7-8k. Takes no time to pass a truck...she's a beauty.

I wonder what the difference is between the 250's of old and the new beasts?

I still love riding my chew fiddies for long long rides! I find they offer me a great biking experience since you have to work harder to keep on keeping on! :ride:

Planning overtakes, up and down the gears ... my lil'ol'hornet is about to go around the clock and when it does, I plan to keep on riding it and riding it some more!

So for those who keep on riding those 250s and for those who do have bigger bikes and still keep riding those 250s, good on yas! :niceone:

Chch to Napier takes around 14 hours on a ZXR250A. 3 of those are due to the ferry of course - mind you, a half way break isn't a bad thing. The trip back usually feels longer...

No you weren't. A little matter of no 'R' and only 2 cylinders....

Yeah I wondered how long that would take.

I'm gonna claim artistic licence

Thanks dude.

I did over 800 k's in one day on the Hyo once... from Palmerston North to Stratford via Wanganui, then Taumarunui via the Forgotten World Highway, then to Hamilton, Auckland and back home to the shore.

T'was fun.
