I don't know why the bike companies spend so much time designing good looking bikes and then go and put a big bit of plastic on the back, i cleaned the backend of my gixxer up here some pics, looks even sexier :2thumbsup

Nice one.. I did exactly the same thing. Never understood why they do that, it just wrecks the sexy lines.. Look at how the exhust and faring now have complimenting lines to each other.. same with mine.
bad designers, stop it..

well done again, you'll get a lot more looks now ;)
Just stick some smaller indicators on the back..

Because it keeps the road spooge off your back? :spudwhat:

Yeah, I know - it's just TOO big.
Trimmed mine on my VFR750 (but not right off) and it'd already been done on the VTR1000. I was about to tack another bit back on it, as the water/road spooge used to spray up the back and either on my back, or under the bag (if it was there) and run down the seat.
The one on the VifFerraRi doesn't seem to have been trimmed, but it's not too ugly, and keeps the crap off.

I did the same on my '91 F2 and I know heaps of peep shave been doing so for the longest time! You;d think the designers would have figured that bikers don't like them over-grown rear fenders and design them as such aye!?!

you have to have a reflector to get a warrant. spose tho if the testing guy is gonna be a dick about it just put one on for the warrant and then rip it off once the stickers on.

Was glad when I got my NZ plate cause I didnt have to have the plastic piece to hold my inspection sticker. (for the states) Always hated that thing, looked ugly and got uglier the more I rode.

you can get a pack of two stick on ones from repco for 10 bucks that do the trick and are quite slim line so could prob be stuck straight on the plate!

Looks good nathan :niceone:

I did something like that to the TL, involved a high speed 12 wheelie, only it got a little outta hand and took most of the back of the bike off instead of just the plastic thingee, oh well, live and learn.

It's all to do with politicians. Most bike mfrs chose to make as few different variants as possible, so they make something which comforms to either all the laws, or most of them if the result looks really ugly.

Mid 90s rear-mudguards were *enormous* in Germany, but the EU money-trap did a good thing (for once) and made them standard everywhere, and normal sized. If you ever see a pic of a stock German FZR/EXUP, you'll see a piece of plastic which almost drags on the ground. Thankfully most other places thought that was too damned ugly and so Yam made them shorter.

That rule is also why BMW GSs have that stupid lower flap-thing on the swingarm. However, it does help keep the crap off me (not all of it tho, so I fitted a hugger as well) and was a convenient place to mount my "Touring Pom" GB sticker.

Ya better watch out if you ever come up to here . Cop's just Nail bike rider's to the MAX here for anything they can . Make's for a hard day's riding trying to get a good ride in with out having to play game's with them.
Bit like "Mad Max " .We are all slowly getting pushed onto the back road's so we can use our bike's the way they are suppose to be used

I havent had any problems with cops, just a nazi WOF guy, passed numerous cops on the road and have never been talked to.

The chances of cops knowing you have to have a reflector and mudguard for a WOF and actually enforcing it would be slim - i hope!

Heres my bikes rear.

Looks awesome. Did the same to mine, however beware of stray stones and shit damaging the paint at the rear
Since doing mine I've had a stone crack my rear tailight lens and the paint around the light peppered with shit. Did a bit of damage. Easily avoided though. I just went and got some of that stick on headlight protection guff... the stuff that has the sticky back ...and applied it to my tail light. Used a bit of scuff tape to look after the rest.

Nice idea to leave the rego plate clearly exposed too....not like this is visible to any one with the phone port
