Ah yes, I found this out the hard way today when I tried getting to Kingsley Street, Stokes Valley using Google maps info.
According to Google maps I could get there via Manor Drive, accessing Manor Drive via the Eastern Hutt Road travelling south http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Manor+drive,+Stokes+Valley,+5019&sll=-41.158964,174.984655&sspn=0.003982,0.008047&ie=UTF8&ll=-41.159174,174.984033&spn=0.007964,0.016093&z=16 but...

I've emailed them, so we shall see if they'll change it. In the mean time I might have to resort to 1 of these things called a book and look at pages. Radical eh!!
It also says on the directions to turn right onto Manor Drive - which is also impossible, not only cos there is no road to turn into but also cos there's cheese cutters along the middle of the road!
10. Continue on Eastern Hutt Rd Go through 1 roundabout
11. Slight left to stay on Eastern Hutt Rd
12. Turn right at Manor Dr
13. Turn left at Kingsley St Destination will be on the left

You want Wagon road, Thomas Street, Manor Drive and then Kingsley to get to Dustys Place.

Yep, I found him in the end! :sweatdrop Had to ask at the petrol station cos I hadn't even looked at an alternative route. And actually according to this map you can't access Kingsley St by going the route you've said - which is the route I went!

Street view never lies.
But yes, I assume it got messed up because the streets are so close.
They messed up esmonde road onramp royally as well.

In this case street view has got it completely wrong too because even it's saying that Thomas St & Manor Drv can be accessed via the Eastern Hutt Road - which they cannot. So someone hasn't been paying attention when mapping the roads for street view.
In my map book (the one with pages and stuff) it has it correct though, so I'll stick to it in future. :)

Google maps is free and worldwide.
I think I'll deal with the 0.1% error rate. :bleh:

Some anomolies do arise and for those who depend on things like Google and GPS being correct 100% of the time, such anomolies can be less than amusing. The couple that took 10hrs (or something like that) to get from Christchurch to Nelson would attest to that.
Apparently the GPS took them through farms and all sorts, looking for the most direct route......funny for us, not for them:Oops:

That looks like the original shape of the interchange.

I can understand getting lost in the sprawling metropolis that is stokes valley, but look at on the bright side, you would have got to see some of the sights and tourist attractions, so your trip was enhanced by the experiance

Quite annoying when Google maps display roads that aren't there anymore.
I at least haven't been able to find this (http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Purau+Port+Levy+Rd&daddr=-43.662082,172.813375&hl=en&geocode=FVUNZv0dmwJMCg%3B&mra=mi&mrsp=1&sz=16&sll=-43.662175,172.807624&sspn=0.011145,0.019226&ie=UTF8&ll=-43.647085,172.761254&spn=0.011148,0.019226&z=16) one yet.

I would rely more on wises.co.nz for accurate maps, instructions, and trip times. Google is often inaccurate or unaware, and trip times (for cars) are usually well out (they add 15-20% trip time)

Looks like it only exists at the eastern end.
Meh, it happens re maps not being accurate. Its quite a job keeping things up to date, Google still doesn't have the new onramp south at Manukau. Get a Garmin GPS and load the open source maps, we do try to keep it accurate :2thumbsup

Yeah, I know :)
Would be fun to get the farmers' permission and try and see if we could rediscover the old Port Levy road. Would be adventure riding for sure.

The Grafton Bridge in Auckland has been closed for months and will never reopen for vehicle traffic.
Google Maps still shows it as being open.
