View Full Version : What the hell's up with Wellington cagers these days?

so, organised to meet up with insanity rules in petone for a coffee after work, (seeing as how our last outing was so rudly interupted,(selfish bastard:bleh:), anyway, I was riding along humming whatever tune was stuck in my head, minding my own buisness when a car wanders straight across the road in front of me, waking me up very quickly, with my back tyre screeching and me moving suspisiously side ways I avoided becoming the latest bit of bling attached to her multi-coloured jap tosser waggon (this all happened right outside the cafe much to insanitys amusment).
so after a quick 1 finger wave to tosser waggons occupants I parked up and joined him for my caffine shot, I hadnt even sat down when a car across the road backed out of its car park causing a repeat of the screeching sound, as we sat there drinking our coffees, talking a bit of crap as you do, this happened 4 more times, 6 near misses in 1 spot in 20 minutes or so.
wellingtonians Love nothing more than dissing Daucklanders driving skills, and I used to agree, but it seems we've caught up and surpassed their efforts, hell even nth Queensland drivers who are used to making their own roads make us look like demolition drivers, is this just a wellington thing or should every road in new zealand be converted into pedestrian only areas?

No far from it. I am more than willing to admit I will always having somthing to learn, as with everything in life. You on the other hand obviously do and love to post on every thread telling us all about it, maybe you could teach me, master. You of infinite wisdom who never makes a fucking mistake, see I admit I fucked up, wasn't paying as much attention to my surroundings as I should have been (maybe you could instruct me on how you manage to never drop concentration even for second?), I only had about 5 metres to stop so I panicked and locked my back wheel, I don’t expect you to understand this as obviously men of steel such as yourself never break a sweat.

This is part of the problem. You all need to be getting the attention of tin-top fuckwits by reminding these retards that they do not (in fact) own the road.
A nice "thank-you" wave is a start.:first:
A happy mirrorectomy for those who are deliberately blocking or endangering a biker, is the other end of the spectrum.:first:

Think the point he was making was more toward the fact you slammed the back brake on, not the lack of concentration ! Though that is gonna burn ya one day !
Only Jay lawrence uses his back brakes, sure it looks cool going sideways into a corner but not sideways into a car that caught you unawares !
Think i've just gone through my third set of front pads since i last changed my back ones !

It's possibly that they are getting sooo pissed off with the neverending roadworks on the Hutt road, and the way they cone off a kilometer of lane for a whole day to allow for a bit of work on the side of the road, and the fact thats there is fuck-all parking in the CBD within two blocks of where you want to park, and if you do find a park then the predatory parking wardens who ticket your car for five minutes over time or the bastard Wilsons parking operatives if you DO try and leave your car off road, and...stuff like that

Actually that about the road works is a good point. Though I'm noticing the blocking filterers thing on the gorge more so than anywhere else. Used to be that MANY MANY cars would be quite happy to pull away from the centreline to make room. I have had heaps more cars 'seemingly on purpose' move into the centre line to block bikes...either that or they are actually just weaving all over the road like rebels without a clue. Either way it has made me filter even more slowly than usual

Option 1 !
How many times has someone posted on here saying a cager switched lanes and near took me out ?
It is going to happen ! Drivers (you and i, him and her, they and them) are going to miss seeing a bike 5 metres behind and to the side, simply because they are not looking for you ! They are looking for a car grille, a bonnet, a truck and a bike just dont register in that split second glance they took !
Option 2 !
Yep yr sure as hell gonna get flamed for admitting you rode in someones blindspot and didn't see that they were likely to switch lanes and then admit to locking the back brake ! Then post it on HERE !
Though i did'nt really see it as a flaming, more of a "lol you did what, with which brake" !
Option 3 !
Why would you ? It aint their fault you rode in their blind spot and started humming ! That behaviour would only entice drivers to squeeze out bikes as #1 said !
Option 4 ? Is she cute ?

The gorge sucks, though. When I'm lucky enough to be riding (you know, wife is sick or something) I don't split much of the gorge. Feels too risky to me.

When I'm driving the car (which is most of my commuting), down the centre lane, I'm watching the cars next to me - to see what they are up to. That's both sides, next to me and down a few tens' of metres. I'm watching to see if the folk in lane 3 want to come into lane 2, or those in lane 1 want to come into lane 2. I'm watching for indicators, brake lights, changes in behaviour of the traffic further ahead. Also for that look of "I want to change lanes but won't indicate 'till I've seen the gap I want".

Then there's the dorks coming in from J'ville who indicate and merge into lane 1, then leave their indicators on. Are they wanting to come straight on into lane 2? Or did they just not turn their indicators off? I've backed-off to leave gaps for people who didn't take them, and gone past people who did want to change lane and who gave me "f-you" glares.

On top of that (really, not just saying this as it's KB) I'm watching my three mirrors for bikes approaching fromm behind. (Damn you arse fucks who ride with high-beam on!). I try to make room for them, but I've had bikes pass me on both sides at the same time. Where do they want me to go?!

Call me an uncoordinated dweeb - but if I said all that was easy, I'd not be taking driving seriously enough.

I see bikes doing it wrong too. Bikes with no indicators on, or using the left one not the right-hand one. Many mornings I see this little BMW thing on the left shoulder. In Tawa this morning a dork on a Bandit (?) pulled out in front of me, then practically stopped in front of me as he had to give way to a car he'd not seen comming from his left.

(I've forgotten why I wrote all this. Just needing to rant [about nothing], I suppose.)

Someone blocking you on purpose is certainly an arse; but they may not be.

In my car I've seen many bikes split - never once saw a car in front of me block a bike. (Never had it done to me, either).

[A month ago I had a truck in front of me (lane 2). Another truck of the same company came up in lane 3 and matched speed with it. (Slowing down the traffic in lane 3). They had a chat through open windows, then I saw a passenger in the lane 3 truck pass a can of drink to the driver of the lane 2 truck! (All in rush-hour downhill gorge traffic). They were from a traffic control company! I rang their regional manager to complain.]

The gorge sucks.

RocKai
16th April 2009, 09:53
LoL funny how you remember all that. But yeah, i've seen more bikes doing stupid than car doing stupid things like weaving and splitting. Stuff like:
>No indicating
>Txting riding
>Weaving in rush hour traffic
>Black Invisible Batman riders
>Overtake in corners between cars
>Wheelie in traffic :2thumbsup:

All in all I don't ride or keep in line with other cars, just get your own space. Who cares about the rest unless they hit you in the end. Then the carnage begins :2guns:

(Damn you arse fucks who ride with high-beam on!)
Nudge them to tell them to turn it off <_<. The only time I get annoyed by high beam are HID beams because they fking totally blind you for like 5 seconds. The normal beam is not that bad, if you're driving at night, I flick the rear view mirror up a notch and you can see the reflection off your roof or something so it's not blindingly bright, lol, it's weird but it works.

You pulled away at lights, and a blonde in a cage caught up with you!?!? and instead of accelerating away and moving to the centre of the lane to "own" it, you pull to the side??

Oh that's right... it's a hyobag you're on... :dodge:

In all seriousness, not being decisive with your riding and lane-placement is just as dangerous as riding too fast... Next time, at the lights, take off so that you're out of the way of cages and move to the centre of the lane asap, otherwise you're gonna get squished!

Does Andrew have any friends? The last time I saw him, was cracking out lame anti-social jokes that nobody laughed at, acting like hes the bees-knees and being a condescending prick. :angry2:

Known him for years. Good rider and mad skillz. If he's yelling at you it's because he thinks you can ride. If he's being nice you may want to look at catching the bus.

There was this club called Survivors MC, instructors, ex-instructors, and instructors victims. Good times.

At one Wellington Motorcyclist of the year comp he made me redo one of the tests 4 times just to prove that I actually could do it and hadn't just fluked it. It was a U turn n a box test. Finally after I had once again aced it - he congratulated me. Funny thing was when I did my full license test practise run with him on the SV he had a similar response when he made me do the u turn bit in a rather narrow street. Geez Andrew we have been here before it was like deja vu except that because it was raining he didn't get me to do it 3 more times to prove I hadn't fluked it that time either.

THIS bitch can U turn like a machine :blip:

I try to make room for them, but I've had bikes pass me on both sides at the same time. Where do they want me to go?!

NOWHERE! They obviously think there's room otherwise they would still be behind you.

Sure.

So why all the bitching from riders saying the cars didn't move over for them?

(As opposed to moving to block them - which is a valid winge.)

wouldn't be room for the rider who passes me on my left. (We all know lane splitting is "legal" on the "pass a vehicle on its' right within its' lane" basis - but we also all know we use the left of the lane to the right usually too.)]

I think the bitching was specifically about cagers who block bikes on purpose.
