Offroad/Trail Trail Ride

When: Sunday, 19 Apr 2009
Where: Sunset Farm - Port Waikato
District (Region): South Auckland (AUCKLAND)
Directions: Signposted from Pokeno and from the Waikato River Tuakau bridge, follow the Honda arrows and signs to Port Waikato and head south (all on sealed roads) to the start approx 3 km south of Port Waikato.

Terrain: With a diversity not seen at other rides, we include the native trail, heaps of farmland, a pine forest block and best of all, rugged cliff top trails that have a freshly bulldozed track that shows of the terrain. Most of the trails (except the Super Expert Pine loop) are of intermediate standard but as always we have the Counties Honda Mini Track where the kids can try the Honda dempo fleet plus the 1.5 km Junior Green Trail suitable for the kids and learners.

they reckon ive been running too lower pressure in my rear tyre, which resulted in the tyre wall delaminating. funny thing is ive had 5 of the same brand tyres and this is the first problem ive had. they gave me a free one which was good:2thumbsup

i ran 7 and 8psi at thunder that day when i went with oldskool and littlejohn, and didnt have any problems, exept that the valve on the tube got stuck either open or closed so it went flat on the next ride, but i dont know whether thats because of low pressure

xen

oldskools bailed on us :angry2:

Oh that's not fair, you know I would never bail unless I had a good reason! It's just I did promise Tawny I'd take her riding and since there is no-one to look after her on the kids track while I am out riding it would be damn irresponsible for me to leave her alone while I go out and enjoy myself :crybaby:

Besides I know this might sound stupid to all you bike mechanic pro's but I just can't seem to slip the collar deep enough into the oil seal so I can fit the front sprocket on properly...the sprocket doesn't go in enough to allow the circlip to bed into the groove?

lol, ok sorry mate
i was only giving the short version, so ill correct myself

oldskool can not come because someone else bailed on him and they were in part going to look after the kiddies, and because hes such a good father he doesnt break promises and has to take his little girl for a ride, probably the sandpit

better?? lol

We run about 11-14psi usually! Nice bike mate! What do you think of the Scorpion extra for winter?? You must like them if you've had 5 or more! Went in to buy one and walked out with a Mt32 instead thats on the 03 Ktm, not to bad a tyre actually. The s12 that was on the 08 Ktm when I bought it is knackered now so might go for the Extra.

Btw they wouldn't give you a new tyre free, if they thought it was all your fault re wrong tyre pressure! It was probably faulty and they where using that as a bit of a bullshit excuse! Lots of people put heavy duty tubes in and run that sorta pressure I think!

BTW 2: Saw Karl Power change a tyre at one of the GNCC events and he had a big spongy rubber thingy in it! $500 each I think he said but no air required and no punctures ever!

yea they are called moose tubes i think, id say birchy and all the other extreme enduro guys use them. i think they replicate 13 psi, drill holes in them and they get softer. the scorpion extra is a good all rounder i reckon, i had a s12 once, it only lasted 4 rides and it was puckaroo.

Sunset farm is an awesome place to ride. I have done a couple of two man cross country races there in the dim dark past. One time on a RMX250 and another on a 94 KLX250. The clay can get a little slippy when wet but be committed and you'll get up the hills easily :) Show no fear!! I might even try to make this ride as it's just down the road.

No, you talk shit? I would have never imagined. ;)
No the sprocket is identical both sides and is identical in thickness to the original sprocket I replaced last month. So I would hazard a guess that the collar needs to somehow slip inside the seal more but I can't get it under the lip (inside edge of seal) without the fear of damaging it.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Disappointed I couldn't make it but it gave me some freetime spent tidying up both xr100's ready for TM. The plan is to sell them both and buy a later model KX60/65 for the kids to share. Something that will help make riding the 'big' trails more enjoyable for them.
