Interested to see what are "Must haves" in regards to Riding gear. It's been 6-7 years since I've been on a bike.

I have helmet, goggles, roost deflector , jersey, Kidney belt, Pants, Gloves, Boots. Back when I rode some of this stuff seemed fairly optional (kidney belt and roost protector).

But now I see a lot of references to neck and knee/elbow protection, and proper armour (dainese, 661 stuff etc).

Is it the norm to have all this extra stuff, is it on top of what I have already listed, or alternative etc etc?

I got a pressure suit which I really like. It covers all your upper body protection.

I'd really reccomend knee protection to. Scott has some nice knee guards for $150.

neck braces are becoming the norm now... id advise getting one if buget allows - one thing im def. gonna get. beats getting paralized.

Depends where your riding... motocross id wear it all, trail ride - Helmet boots goggles gloves and pants, Fmx - helmet boots and gloves and mucking around helmet and gumboots :)

Many people ride with exactly what you have listed Hiss!!

But I prefer a pressure suit has everything in at once!
Plus I use the Thor Knee protectors (bit like a knee brace) they are here http://www.mrmotorcycles.co.nz/product_info.php?cPath=47_37&products_id=714 bloody good product without spending 5 hundy per knee!!
I just got a EVS neck protector today as I have a very bad neck from a road bike crash and have been holding back in my riding because of it. So gonna try that this weekend.

Haha!! couldn't fit much more protection on now unless I use a condom as well !!!! LOL!!!

I just cant get comfy witht hose knee braces(the same Thor ones you've got) on and so have never worn them.. Not ideal, considering I have reconstucted ligaments in one knee and the other one missing a couple..

I've just bough one but do ya reckon it really did Vazz! You tend to think they save ya because you have them on but maybe you coulda been just as OK without it? We never really know do we?? Gonna try mine tomorrow felt a bit bulky putting it on in the garage though??

Yeh mate I don't think they are marketed as a knee brace but compared to those knee pads they are much better. Well bloody good for the price?

What the heck is a roost deflector - is it something that scares away the chickens??
Me I go a la naturale - leathers and merino. I'll tell you where later!!:buggerd:

Roost Deflector, I have NO idea why the heck they are called that LOL
I was looking at one on TM this morning
Tard Me Roost Deflector (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=213486862)
Basically a bit o plastic that in the forests I would guess invaluable for keeping you a bit more bruise free. If you whack into a branch, the plastic will take the brunt.

Follow a 450 too close on an MX track and you soon will....

Roost = Sand, dirt, clay, rocks, worms and small furry animals thrown up in a "rooster tail" behind an accelerating bike.....

This is roost, never been on the receiving end of a 450 roost, pretty much everyone else is on 250's up here, but I'm told it feels like someone is firing a rock salt shotgun cartridges at you continuously ( dry as clay track ).

Which you cop directly on your front and face!! Its called being "ROOSTED".
Sometimes happens by accident! Sometimes the passing rider will give it a fistful of throttle to "roost" you!!! :scooter:
Then you'll get ribbed back at park up, :woohoo: "roosted" you he'll say, you'll deny it, but the mud and crap stuck to your front and the fact your still spitting it out will make you a liar!!!:innocent:
