I've been given one of those giant vinyl advertising banners that hang over a street. It's 1m high x 12m long! It's been sitting in a friend's garage for years (it says something like TVNZ Whitbread Festival 1990 on it). I'm a member of various voluntary groups and I can imagine all kinds of possible uses for a giant sign like that - outside clubrooms, along a fence to advertise a gala day, etc.

I initially thought it had vinyl stick-on lettering that I would be able to remove pretty easily but I've just dragged it out to give it a clean and discovered most of the lettering is painted on.

Is it worth trying to renovate it to re-use or should I just chuck it out with the inorganic collection? There's no way I want to start scrubbing the paint off with solvents - it would take me about 100 years and end up just being a big grey smudge. How about painting over the words with house paints? Any other ideas?

And before anyone starts with the jibes, yes I am under-employed at the moment.:pinch: Might as well use my spare hours cleaning out the garage and doing all those jobs I never thought I would get around to! (Anything except housework that is! :argh:)

Hmmmm...the lettering is painted on now, right? And it isn't flaking off from being rolled/folded up? Then it would seem entirely possible to paint out the whole thing. It will require a paint that is flexible and compatible with PVC. I don't know what that might be, so I suggest you talk to Signwriters Supplies. 0800 113 631

I think there is a pvc based paint.
