Photo submissions for the
2010 Kiwi Biker Calendar
are open.
Submisions will close 1 November 2009.
You can send your pictures through calendar@kiwibiker.co.nz
When submitting your photos please include: KB nickname, location where the photo was taken, bike make and model, and any other information you think would be useful to make a caption for it.

I have put some rules and guidelines below to help us avoid some of the issues that occurred with the 2009 calendar.
Rules & Guidelines for Submitting Photos
Maximum of five photos per member.
You can submit photos throughout the year.
Once you have submitted more photos than the allocated limit, the extras will most likely be ignored.
The judges will not guarantee that any extras will be included in the selection process; however, they reserve the right to keep any exceptional photos in the running even if they were submitted after the member's limit.
Each image should be in the best format and highest possible resolution you can provide (please resize them so are not over 10meg). If you send a poor version of your file it won't be selected for printing. This is to avoid any potential delays caused by getting the selected photos ready for printing.
Images can only be submitted via email to calendar@kiwibiker.co.nz.
Each submitted photograph, in its entirety, must be a single work taken by the individual member. You cannot submit a photograph taken by someone else unless you have that person's explicit permission. (please do not add a watermark or simlar to your picture, your nick is added to photo before being printed, to show who has taken it)
Submissions must not have been previously published and no other party has claim or interest in the photograph.
The photo must have been taken in 2009.
The final photos will be selected by a number of KB members. These people could be photographers or those involved in producing the final calendar.
Note:
When you submit photos, please look at the photos you submitting first. Look at the background and determine what else is there. We do not want to see your car, underwear drying on the clothesline, or dirty garage, etc.
The calendar should ideally include a range of photos, ranging from sports bikes, dirt bikes, cruisers, scooters, or adventure bikes. If you have a photo you like, go ahead and submit it because you never know.
These rules/guidelines are subject to change and improvement, so keep checking back.

Yes. Someone has to make the effort since very few others appear to be interested! :Pokey: Photos don't submit themselves, y'know.

Is the intention for the photo to be of a bike itself, or can it be scenary shots with a bike in it?
What about a shot like pain on a riders face as they come off for the first time?
Or how about a rider flying through the air after a high side?
Is the calendar a not-for-profit activity, or does someone financially benefit from it?
Who owns the copyright of the photo once it is submitted into the competition?

Is the intention for the photo to be of a bike itself, or can it be scenary shots with a bike in it?
Can be a bit of both. we put a range of different shots in the calader, from race shots, to bikes with nice scenary behind them.
What about a shot like pain on a riders face as they come off for the first time? well depends if its a good photo or not and if it gets choosen
Or how about a rider flying through the air after a high side? depends if it is choose, i get a number of different kb members who do alot of photographic work, some do it for a living
Is the calendar a not-for-profit activity, or does someone financially benefit from it?All profits go to Spank to help run this site
Who owns the copyright of the photo once it is submitted into the competition? You will own the rights to yourphoto, you are just giving us rights to publish them in the the 2010 calander only, will not be used any other adverising, publishing materail blah blah blah

Okay i am out of country for the next two weeks, i need more submissions come in the over this time.
At this point in time I have only had 16 people sent thru photos, with a total of 30 photos.
Once i get back i will look if its worth while doing a calander this year.
SO get some photos coming in.
Remember to keep the rules above.
You do not have to sent 5 photos all in once, you can send in 3 photos now and sent a couple more in later.

Price is governed by the production costs (as yet unknown), but would probably be around the $20 mark.

They're definitely worth it. $20 odd last year.
They are much better than the typical boring landscape/cats/flower ones you get.
I was very impressed with the quality of mine and i'll definitely keep on getting them, it's like having a small poster which changes every month, rather than a boring reminder of the month.

Hey Dudes and Dudess's
Correct me if I amwrong if you have 16 pictures, shouldn't that be enough to choose from seeing as though there are only 12 months in a year!!
Or area some of them crap.
Take a gander at mine when it comes in Cajun, as it encapsulates my humour a bike and a double meaning to the picture and its not rude ad it will crack folk up, if the heading is included in it.
Folks rust me you willlaugh and lvoe this shot, I took it at my favourite rally (Hokitika's woodstock Rally) couple of yeas ago, and showed practically the whole rally site, fuck it was funny, although IDB thought I might have run the joke dry......even he said when he saw the photo again that he thought it was a cracker.
Hope you Dudes are well, the season in the UK is changing but as I look outside today its a lovely sunny warm day, long may that continute

Well you need 13 pictures(front cover & 12 months, what i did this year, was make a collage on other popular photos for the backpage) , and well you need 13 pictures of different bikes don't want two of same bikes in the calander. and well if only 13 people are wanting to submit photos, does that mean only 13 people want to order a calander. lack of interest in photos, can relfect in lack of interest in orders

Nope just needs to be a kb member that is submiting the photos, and have rights, one of the pictures that made in the calander this year was, taken in aussie. with some doing a tour there.

i get members of the site who do photo work for a living, or really good at it, to select photos, no one gets a sneak preview, due some people only order calanders if there pic is included, hence the reason you asked to send the best quality picture possible, if you send a good photo but a shit copy(small size etc), it won't be selected.
And honstly at this point in time, there isn't really enough photos to put lots of effort to sorting it out at moment. Its a rather big headache to sort out, and chance people, and if people are not gonna support this side, of things.
So i need more.

Well i have decided there will not be a calander, for 2010, due to fact not enough good photos and range of subjects(have 2 photos only of a cruiser, and these are of same bike submitted by same person),
I got a total of 107 photos, by about 35ish people, where i had 50-55 people last year, with around 160-170 photos (off top my head)
I got a number of different memebers of this site to go thru the photos and select there favourite photos, from the and they could come up with 12-15 photos, but in turn it would work that at least 2-3 photos where of peoples photos already selected.
Many of the photos are good, but they are to low quality to be blow up to 300dpi etc for printing. Which has to be taken in to fact when selecting photos. And boils down to that the better photos that would be used in the calander, would have multi photos by same person, which i don't want to do.
And honstly if i had this much effort to get people to submit photos, i need at a minium 50-60 calanders to even worth printing, i am not gonna waste my time, to bother, if not gonna get the pictures send in for it.

i know its annoying, some of the people who talked in this thread, didn't even send submissions thru, and many people did not even read the guide lines before submitting photos.
I could make a calander out of 'racing shots' but that would make a boring calander for people who have no interest in race bikes.

To me, KB is about the 'people' rather than the flashy photos. I love the KB calendars, but I find some of the pics (eg, racing ones) too professional looking.. & some of the posing ones.. too shiny &.. well.. posed
How bout making a calendar about people who are 'out' of their comfort zone & trying something different.. & enjoying themselves?? Bring out some of the character in the people :msn-wink:

It's a lot of work to organize the calendar, and I don't think we could sell the numbers required this year to make it worth while. Plus it's too late in the year to have them ready for the new year.
