Have a look on the www.advrider.com, under thumpers. Quote a few threads on the 610TE, which ppl there seem to like. Like the LC4, that engine has been around for ages & is very well sorted.

In my vague awareness, the TE610 is rated as THE thumper to have for a technical adventure rider. Quite a bit newer and more refined than the 640E, from what I have read. Similar on very many other counts. (That position pre-dates the 690 Enduro.)

The SM is a super moto and has the 17" tyres. You'd be better off with a TE with 21/18 rims.

the Te610 is an awesome machine. Triumph are the dealerships and there are a few good knowledgeable folk here in the waikato. Craig at NV Motorcycles is the Husky agent here and he knows the bikes really well.
He races the SM and has extensive knowledge.
I have a friend with a TE610 and he likes it.
It is a tall bike, the stand can flick up unexpectedly, similar to the Husaberg if you don't have the weight over it when you pop off.
The stand is also thin, so putting it down in softer ground makes it like a spike rather than a stand. Small issue I know....
ADV has a great forum for these and the owners in the US are happy with them apart from the lack of front fork adjustments for the 08 models.

I would really like one, settled in the Husaberg which is a nice machine too. The only thing I can say is the fuel range is a bit of an issue, but over time it will be solved as you see in the forum, the guys have ways around it as well as the carrying of baggae etc...
Hope this helps you...
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=431849 - This thread is a great read as well, the guy goes all over the place on his TE610 and is very good at video, and the photos are great! Awesome read, the places he goes!

Happy to help...Give Craig a call, he is in the know, he will be able to source one I bet...Last time I asked he could have gotten a couple of TE610's from Triumph. They never know what is hidden in the storage crates, you might get lucky!

I tried to get a TE610 earlier in the year, but apparently there were none bought in to the country.
But maybe now they have, the TE610 was pretty high on my list of bike options. As per my thread here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=90777)

I played with this one for a few days, years ago (2003 FNAR).
Nice power, didn't like the seat (in trying to make the seat lower, they'd kinda put a notch in the frame at the base of the tank)..

I actually tried to buy this press bike, but when I got there the bastids had sold it.
I bought a LC4e instead - more power, better off road, not as comfortable - probably the better choice when all is said and done.

Well, I have the bike, finally sorted :) I have been dismantling it since I got home from work :). All plastics polished, cleaned around the front forks and radiator. It is in very good condition, almost new in fact. Not surprising since the last owner just has the motard rims on it. The excels are brand new. No warrant until June next year, reg is May 2012, awesome :)
New tank IMS, is on its way, new bash plate from Sealhy Off Road is also in transit, just $79 USD :)....Acerbis guards are rerady to put onto the Tomesseli bars.
Once the bike is ready for assembly, I will time lapse the assembly. Meantime, the XT will be ridden and I cannot wait until the weekend to get out and ride. The Husqvarna is going to be the Dusty Butt steed me thinks..

Still works out cheaper even with postage compared to genuine one and also B&B...was quoted over $300! So, $150 odd NZD pretty good and it was mailed yesterday, great service mate. :)

I,d definately look at one..maybe in couple years when BMW have sorted out the first model blues....that is unless KTM anit got a new ADV by then....asuming it don't look like a Beeamer that is

Back when I was looking for an EXC I was thinking the 450 EXC wouldn't have enough snot for adv riding and I should really get a 525. How wrong I was.
The 450 has more than enough to spin up on gravel comming out of a corner at 80+kph and chews up tyres plenty fast enough. Oh and I stayed with a B4 Suby accelerating out of one of the Russley Rd roundabouts up to 120kph when he pulled the pin. The 450 is enough of a wild child to get me into plenty of trouble.
I'll probably still be going larger when the 450 needs a rebuild though ;)

The TE450/510 have a closer ratio gearbox than most (all?) of the other enduro bikes (including the 5 speeds like the DRZ and WR450). Makes it less versatile as a technical dirt and highway runner on the same day (i.e. without sprocket changes).

The DRZ is like the DR650 in also needing a 6th gear.
More versatile from the standpoint that for an equal overall first gear ratio the DRZ has a taller top gear (5th) than the TE450/510 (6th), even though it has one less gear. Of course the spacing between the DRZ gears is greater.
Please note the specs I have for the Husky are for a 2008 model - I don't know whether the more recent/current models are the same.
The DR650 has a wider overall ratio gearbox than the DRZ (its actually very close to the WR450). The DR650, however, has a big gap between first and second (which I'm sure many owners are aware of).

and what is the point of all this? I am sure all bikes have their merits but to state the 'versatility' bit is a bit over the top, especially if you are referring to what makes a better machine and all that. We know DRs are good bikes, tractor along nicely forever....Great, nearly got one myself. BUT, the Huskies, KTM and other breeds all have their specs that make them unique as does the Ural...:)

In contrast to the 450/510 Huskies, the 610 has the widest range gearbox in it's class by a country mile. Check out this excellent resource on advrider:

I am taking my wide ratio six speed machine to the mechanics, I got to put on hand guards, but need a 14mm drill....Then tonight I am going to install my IMS tank and bash plate that arrived courtesy of Steahly and Just GasTanks....Then I may put on my GPS bracket and hard wire through to the battery. Ready for a ride this weekend in the wet by the looks of the forecast...
Waihou Thumper
30th September 2011, 17:06
Well, I have new Acerbis guards on the bike, that was easy when you have the right 14mm drill bit and good air pressure.... The bash plate was an easy fit and it has the Husqvarna logos across the top, looks good. It is very well made and sure is a lot cheaper than a OEM Carbon part that they suggested...
I then fitted the tank, the IMS. I even read the instructions...Just once
Had it all fitted and was really chuffed that you can use the standard pet cock and screw tap. The standard has the reserve wire to the speedo, so that's good.
I assembled it, filled some gas and WTF! A leak, no...two in-fact...:gob:
Oh, so that is what the other two screw taps are for....haha.
OK, so, back inside the garage I go, apply these and the T junctions. Job done. Head down to the garage and fill 'er up mate please :)
OMFG...:shit: Loads of gas coming out....OK, know where that is coming from. The standard tank has a breather plug at the top, so does the IMS. I get home, put it on the stand, melt a rubber hose, pinch it off then put it on the breather...All good now, except I have to drill a hole through the cap, add a rubber breather and all is looking good.:woohoo
I keep looking in the garage for signs of fuel on the floor and vapours, but so far all is good...:)
Those plastic T pieces are a bitch to get in all the way....I tried as best I could, got most of the way in, but figure they are tight in, so won't be loose coming out:innocent:
Is it an issue when front brakes grab then squeal a little? Not until the very last pull, almost when stopped...Could be some residue on the rotors maybe?

I am thinking of running the tank completely empty, then scoring graduations on the left side for, litre increments....I was wondering the best way, maybe some sort of sign that I will recognise... Translucent is great, but I still want to know what remains...
