Up real early and headed off to work. Weather looked like it was going to be a cracker of a day so thought best to get work out the way as wuickly as possible and get to the track. After working (read slaving) was complete I came home and grabbed the bike and headed to Feilding.
Sign in wasnt till 830am and it was a little after 7.30am so I thought I would have plenty of time only to get there and find about 100 bikes already there! All the stalls were already taken so I parked up and text 86 to see if he had finished his latte yet.
Stood at the front of the cue and was told that sign in would still not start till 830 so fair enough and chatted for a bit till the organisers got sorted and to be fair, they did a fantastic job considering how swamped they were.
Scruiteeneering was a little tough with complaints about my brakes and throttle. Its a kwaka. Its not surposed to have good brakes! But yes, they do work. Passed anyhow and headed to join gsvr to pretend to be his pit bitch for the day.
Decided to stick to the medium group for the day to work on some corner speeds without the presure of the fast group. Groups were a little crowded and got swamped in the first session. Working on the hairpin and toyota to try and get round them without freaking out and jumping on the brakes.
Session 2 went a little better and got some clear track for a little while. Matched my PB time of 1.30 but didnt feel like it was a very good run.
Session 3 86 and I got together and decided not to wait to try and get clear track and just run out however it turns out. This turned out to be a great idea as ended up in a line of traffic that were all doing about the same speeds. Lots of fun and 86 did his make cowboyz look bad trick.
Session 4 86 and I had seperate stopwatches on us to see what we could pull out of the bag. This session was the best I have ever had, ever. Got out in front and the lead rider seemed to disappear. Not really sure what happened to him TBH but clear track and bike felt fantastic. 86 managed to pass me somewhere along the line and towed me round the track in some really close non-racing (cause it was not a raceday). It was mint. Just sublime when you get to ride close to someone you can trust and have a good go. I got on the inside on a few corners but couldnt get the drive out to get past. Big ups to 86 for holding his lines and not giving it away. Stopwatch read a 1.25 on one of the laps and circulating in 1.27s which I am stoked with. Felt really solid and didnt feel at any time that I was pushing it into scary zone.
Thanks to central districts for another fantastic day and to 86gsxr for some exciting laps.

Bloody mint day all round alright! That was the most fun I've had at a trackday for ages. Yep, it was great to get out with Cowboyz and do some decent running without having to worry about unknown riders. That last session was soooo cool with some really tight neck and neck stuff. Great to be in front and just go for it, where did that lead rider go I wonder? Glad of the room tho. Got some real amusement when dealt to by Polly on the inside, man he was pumping that old Gixxer and I can see why they were such a weapon in the day.
Felt good to be on the Daytona for her first trackday. Excellent company both on and off the track!

you got that right. I could hardly believe the tow that gsx1100 had coming out of higgins. Accidently hit the rev limiter a couple of times forgetting to change gear as I saw polly pulling away. Awesome stuff.

the guy has some skills but arse kicking is hardly an accurate description. Thinking the daytona and the 9 can hold there heads up high in that last session.
If I had a honda he surely would have left me behind.

Hill climb. 30 minute wait. Cold tyres. Not the best road condition. More grunt than a green machine could imagine.:Pokey:
Lots of bikes having this trouble. Just that i have on video. Hoping there will be some goods pics turn up.

I've got a couple more excuses like, the Kwaka's slower than a Daytona, I'm old and therefore slow, I was taking it easy because I've got broken bits, Polly's light and was riding a Gixxer and he must have been running some secret english rocket fuel, the light wasn't right - or something

Think of a couple more too !
His suspension would have been set for track, tyres were prolly specific track tyres, and last but far from least, he's been round that track a few hundred more laps than you !

If you are talking about me, I have only done 3 track days at Manfeild, and also did one at Taupo a couple of weeks ago.
The engine in the GSXR is stock, and it runs on 91 petrol.
I do have a few trick GSXR engine bits, left over from 20 years of bike drag racing. Parts to build a big motor are sitting on the bench in my garage, just waiting for PN engine rebuilders to finish the block, then it can all go together.

Bill its a GSXR. The R stands for Race Replica. In the year the bike was built it would have been pretty good. (Waits for fish to bite).
But it would go considerably better if the forks where changed and a modern stock fitted. The wheels are 17 inch now.

Really looking forward to you doing a bit of racing. The first few meetings will be a huge learning curve but your the sort of guy that has all the skills and ability to do well.
Thanks for the help Cowboyz, Polly, others with axle stands etc.

Would be nice if you could get one of your gixxers sorted and setup for trackdays! This has been discussed many times in the past I know.

I had fibreglass fairings on and the bellypan is a slightly different shape to the road fairings and just took them off to find big scrape marks down the right hand side of them
Need more tracktime and learn how to get round corners without hitting the ground me thinks.
