It's that time of year again!

Anyone with a tree have way more than they can possibly eat, and looking for some sad sap to give them all away too? I'm your man.

Will ride across Auckland to get my fix.

Signed,

The dancing yellow Feijoa man.

*Joins the queue behind Gubb*

The last couple of places I lived in had feijoa trees but now I'm living in a feijoa-free-zone. :weep:

So yeah, make my day by letting me come to your place and pick up your feijoas! Please! (Don't let that Gubb guy have them all... he only wants to eat them anyway!)

Hey compost, we have millions and millions of feijoas, want to come and enter the lions den to get them?

Seriously though we have heaps.

Shit that Number One is a bit of a character eh?

Weird you mention squirts and feijoas, I learned something really interesting years ago when my son was a wee little whipper snapper. Feijoas have a naturally occurring arsenic type poison in them that some people are really sensitive to. I thought my son was in big trouble when he started falling over and banging into things and feeling strange all over (little kids cant describe things that well eh). Turns out he is intolerant of Feijoas

All good, more for me :D

Bloody possums have eaten all ours and our neighbours. Bastards have even eaten my grapefruit and they will eat lemons if that's all that's left! Amazingly they didn't touch the apples - but the pukekos have had a go at the ones up behind the pond.

I love feijoas but don't know anyone nearby with a tree unfortunately.

We keep all the skins from the ones we eat - they go to a friend who makes real nice feijoa wine
The real nice plump ones get peeled and preserved for off season eating, the juice is kept for drinks for the kids
The riper feijoas get mixed with the slightly immature ones and cooked up for feijoa and apple crumble, feijoa and apple pie
The peelings get cooked and made into feijoa jam

What a great fruit

Ours have all but finished.... bugger!
Quite pleased to get a second year out of them, the trees are quite small, have only been in for two years. They are the "Unique" variety, I recommend them

 Can I move in?

Yeah the commute will not be too bad, and the board is reasonable :devil2:

Will gather a few up for you, be warned though, the tree is HUGE, and this year seems to be its on year. They are bi-annual flruiters I think, we get one year of tiny fruit and one year of big ones, looks like this could be your year  Last year I ended up gathering them up and giving them to the local bird refuge.

Shame you didn't say something sooner - ours are all but finished now. I've had to clear the driveway of feijoas every morning for the last 6 weeks just to go to work. I've eaten so many I reckon I'm starting to look like a feijoa (always been pretty green and round anyway ).

Anyone else agree with me that kiwifruit tastes like crap compared to feijoas?
I'd rather eat whole lemons rather than kiwifruit, and I often do. ;)

A few weeks ago I went down to Mum and Dads place in Taradale. Came back with a big shopping bag full of them. They lasted less than a week.

I just wish I had space to plant a tree.

And sorry sinfull, can't make this one. Should be at the next one (hopefully with a new toy ), so i'm sure Alan will help you out. Would be a good change from Bananas for him.

Interesting ! See ya then then ! Could be a new toy event, though after taking the Speed 3 in for an appraisal, it looks like it won't be going as a trade !
This monkey don't accept peanuts !

How did i miss this thread!?!? I was just about to start a Feijoa appreciation thread lucky i found this. Im addicted to these things. Neighbours used to give us a lot but they moved and i don't know the new ones so i can't really ask! Our trees don't drop that many but you can often find me in the orchard with a spoon eating them off the ground :o

If anyone in Hamilton has any extra i will gladly dispose of them for ya :D
