Finally got out for a ride today. Thought I'd have a look through the Makairo track before winter sets in. Pretty busy in there. Lots of hunters on quads been through, so the track was fairly well cleared.

After the Makairo, I went for a blast though Coonoor Road to Makuri. Hit Pori, then through Puketio road. That's an awesome road.

From there it was through Waihoki, Huia, Spur, Marainanga. I wanted to go to Akitio, but fuel was very low, so back to Pongaroa. No gas here, so up the Manuhara and called into my olds place to beg for a tank of gas. Rolled in on fumes. Hit reserve at 164km, and I was now at 189 with about half an inch left in the bottom of the tank.

Up over the Towai and out through the Waitahora.

249km all up. Awesome day :headbang:

1. That little trench is still there (Makairo track)
2. Puketio road
3. Near Spur road (the Three Kings in the background)
4. Nice gorge on the Coast Road
5. more
6. Top of Towai road

 Nice one Bart. I got the map out to see where you went. You certainly zig zagged around the district. I'm keen to do the Makiro Track before it gets too wet.

In photo number 6, Bart at the top of the Makairo you have veered off to the right.

How far / where does that branch of the track go ???????

It's pretty rare to see that river so empty. Things are dry for this time of year. Even a Trails bike would struggle, as those boulders are the size of cars...............but hey, I'd try anything for a laugh. ;)

Hey, you guys want to go for a ride in my neighbourhood, I'm more than happy to show you around. Not much gas out there in a weekend. You really need about 300km range to have a good ride. I missed a few nice little tracks because of this.

The track I'm on in the photo runs out after a couple of hundred metres. Apparently there was a hut there somewhere many years ago.

I noticed a couple of small tracks going off the main one, but wasn't keen to explore, as there were a lot of hunters in there. Saw a few quads parked off the side of the track, half camoflaged. Thought I was probably pissing them off enough, so didn't hang around.
