Hi guys,
I'm trying to get a hold of a helmet like this one, its a Shoei XR-1000 Flutter TC-9. Size Small.
My local shop can get one in 12 weeks but i'm looking for a bit quicker, theres none left at the suppliers in hamilton i'm told so if anyones seen one around auckland area that i could check out would be good, even if its not the right size as I havn't seen one in the flesh so would be great to check it out before ordering one.
Its for the Mrs and she wants THAT ONE!!
THANKS.

Ring Peter Stevens in Melbourne. They had a bunch of Shoei helmets including I think that one on special last week when I was there. They were going for $649AUD IIRC. remember you get their GST back off that (but if unlucky pay it here again) and shipping, which should be SFA.
and, you should have it by Friday.

I just bought a Shoei XR1000 last week. I went to Holeshot, Cycletreads, Cyclespot, and finally Motomail. There were no flutters at any of those shops. Quite a few other designs tho.
Quite a price varience too, $799 at Holeshot Vs $849 at Motomail. I went with motomail because there service was exceptional, the other shops were to busy pissing around on there computers or laughing amongst each other to bother talking to me.
Plus at the moment motomail have a voucher thing, $20 for every $100 spent. So now have $170 to spend at motomail in June- July.

This is the sort of problems you have when you let them make their own decisions.
Just tell her she is having black - problem solved.

Yes it would solve this problem, although it would create some others....

If you know what size your Shoei head is, order one online from the USA. You should get delivery within a week.

Yep but depends on exchange rate as to if it is viable.I looked when us$ was 59c last week or so,xr1000 close out diabolic blue was $329 plus $70 freight, used bnz rate and was $666.95nz or similar, this was close out model so the standard ones were around $450 ish.

If you want a "common" Shoei helmet for a "common" head size, then you can probably get a good deal off the shelf from your local retailer that would work out about the same cost as an Internet purchase from the USA, perhaps even cheaper.
However if you have an "uncommon" head size (like a XXXL, for example), then neither your local retailer nor Shoei's New Zealand "distributor" actually gives much of a fuck. If they can be persuaded to, then you will have to wait at least 12 weeks for one to wend its weary way from Japan. In which case buying ex-USA and getting delivery within one week for about the same cost as buying here is, perhaps unsurprisingly, an attractive alternative.
I should add a caveat that I'm not picking on Shoei. The HJC "system" is exactly the same. I don't pick on other helmet manufacturers because they don't even attempt to make helmets at either end of the head size bell curve.

There is one at McIver and Veitch in Dunedin. My wife tried it on about a three weeks ago and ended up buying a different pattern.
