Stuff.co.nz Had this quote from Trev regarding the Motel in Palmy that has banned people from Wainuiomata:

"It's stupid and very, very unfair. It shows the sort of blind prejudice I thought we didn't have in New Zealand anymore. I'm not surprised the [owner's] Australian."

Poor old Trev, he's desperately trying to remain relevant and in the public eye.

This is the same reason you see Phil Goff and the Greens (in particular) flapping their gums all the time. They don't want people to forget who they are.

Who or what are these things you speak of...?

They come from a dark time of NZ's history. It's best we don't speak of them again.

Shh, not another word. Go now. Let me always remember you like this.

In all seriousness, who watched the Close Up item about this?
The ocker owner has a naughty chair for adults that do bombs in the pool...FFS!! And the rabid Scotsman - what can I say?
The motel had a problem with a group of sportsmen/women and maybe a group of school students on a sports trip. These groups were from Wainuiomata. So now anyone from Wainui is banned from this motel. Using the owner and his lapdog's logic that 'all are tainted with the same brush', then we should deport all Aussies and Scotsmen for the same reason.

Sounds good to me...when do we start?

He has had a LOT more problems with people from Wainui than suggested above. It's been going on for a few years now. I'm not condoning his position but can fully appreciate where he is coming from.

The uni games have just passed through our fair city, this time with few issues. Not to say there weren't any just that they have toned things down this time, why you ask? Because they had issue getting ANYWHERE to stay due to poor behaviour in the past. Now the message is loud & clear they have pulled their heads in.

He may be erring on the side of being unreasonable but I can fully appreciate his position, enough is enough & a call needed to be made, as harsh as it may appear to you.

Last year I threatened to ban an entire school from not only our 3 locations but would pass it on to MANZ due to the conduct of one of the adults (believe it or not). Some people think they can just run a muck when they go away. He lost the attitude real quick after I had finished with him <_<

Nothing - Wainui is just one big tip. Bury the fuckin lot of 'em I say . . .

I know of a KTM sponsored MX team that got evicted out of a similar establishment by the plod, 'cause they thought they owned the place and could do what they liked. The owner had a different opinion, called the plod, made a couple phone calls and they couldn't get accommodation in the town - everyone refused them. He successfully sued them for over $10,000.00 worth of damage, I believe KTM also recindered their sponsorship as well, when it all came out in the wash.

It ain't that fuckin' hard to work out why he has taken the stance he has. A few hundred dollars in lost revenue vs. a few thousand dollars in damage plus the cost off pursuing these lowlifes plus the loss of revenue due to repairs (of which is probably considerably more than the actual income for the nights' stay in itself) not to mention the image/attention the other guests have to put up with, which may or may not have them questioning their choice in accommodation venue which may or may not lead to future loss in revenue.

Thats some of the reason prices go up, 'cause halfwit retards wreck the fuckin' joint.

Ban them all when they show their face.

On a side note - I reckon ban all under 5's from public pools, nappies or not. Ban 'em!

Banning a whole school is one thing, but to ban an entire town?
FFS...ludicrous!
I wouldn't darken the prick's door, were I ever to need motel accomodation in PN.

So people from Wainui who wish to stay at this fuckwit's place should just tell him they come from somewhere else? Oh, and make sure that their vehicle reg does not show their home town....
Sure, ban those responsible for damage etc and put the word around the other businesses too. That's fine. But to ban a whole town, 99% of whom are no problem at all, well...that's just OTT, ludicrous, elitist, etc.
I'd be tempted to go in, ask if he had a vacancy, and when told Yes, I'd just laugh and tell him his attitude to potential guests is probably half the reason...as I walked out the door.

I had the pleasure of meeting the owner on Christmas day. Interesting that he was the one annoying the residents while zooming around the lodge on a scooter pissed with no helmet.

As this is KB, I vote we burn him!:D

Slightly of topic but in a similar vein!
A group of us bikers (on sports bikes all power ranger'd up) arrive a a local to me drinking/dining establishment in dear old pomy land and were quite rudly denied service "we dont serve bikers here" was our first exchange of words! Fine no arguments just turned somewhat stunned and went elswhere. Now I hasten to add we hadn't all arrived (6 of us) as if we had just finished a moto GP all wheelies and stoppies etc, but just trundled in very low profile like. Pissed of or what........anywhoooo.

A couple of weeks later we/ most of us turned up again only this time in cages, ordered a heap of food and drinks, gave it 10 mins and got up to leave stopping off at the landlord at the bar and appologised for forgetting he didn't serve bikers.......The bill would have been around 150ish pounds, the look on his face pricless

Actually, Wainuiomata is an almost self-contained community, with its own shops, schools , medical centres, police station, industry, outlying farms and barely short of city-size population-wise. Not quite like Bellblock really :bleh:

Bell Block is a town in it's self for sure, but fast becoming a northern suburb of New Plymouth, sometimes referred to as "solo mum city"

That's true, human's are human's. He has just seen far too many come from Wainui. No different to the Uni games finding it hard to get accommodation & having to go outside of Uni cities due to them having had enough of them. Moteliers were refusing to take ALL Uni students. Without living through what you go through when living on site of a business like these its hard to fully appreciate it, granted. Remember the media is always going to have some spin on this & lets face it, the spin is better suited to the drama of banning an entire suburb than saying "he is justified due to xyz experiences over the last two years".

Me, I make the call on each person/group based on how they conduct themselves. Have turned plenty away at the door in the past & turfed plenty out part way through & will continue to do so to protect the business & my current guests who didn't pay to put up with their BS.

MSTRS
22nd April 2009, 16:14
I don't get what sort of spin can be put on this situation. Now, don't get me wrong...I think Mallard is a complete cock, but if my first and only experience of him was what I watched last night...well, I'd actually be somewhat impressed. :blank: As it is, I feel that the many thousands of ordinary folk who just happen to live in Wainui are being given a raw deal by this pair of dicks in PN.

I'd MUCH rather live in Bellbock.. If only Wainui was a bit more self contained we could get rid of the road over the hill and leave them too it.

Until we get a Wellington Super City, I think they are Lower Hutt's problem not Wellington's :-P

Well I was quite interested in the comments of Rob Mill, the Principal of Wainui High. Without doing him a complete injustice, what I think he was saying was that you've got to expect kids will be a little high-spirited. Rob was deputy head in Tokoroa when our kids went to school there and he was a real "rugby head" who's personal behaviours weren't too bloody flash and maybe he's found Nirvana in Wainui:innocent:
