View Full Version : Yamaha Zeal starting problems

For the past few days i have tried to start my zeal but to no avail, at first when choke and fuel tap is on the starter motor is turning over, can slightly hear it spark and fire up. But then after a few seconds the engine dies down to the point where a buzzing sound is coming from the battery area.
Its not the battery but something next to it ( i forgot what its called:wacko:) It is a inline4 if people are wondering (dont know if this common)

This is another problem - when i shoot it up into powerband which is about 10rpm and there is 16 on the rev count. It kind of bogs along, holding back from what it is capable of, carbs maybe need re jetting for that? considering it bogs down as if it hasnt got any fuel left in the tank.

so i have determined its electrical but could anyone please help me make a diagnosis of the problem here, so i can get it fixed/replaced. Help will be much appreciated thnx. Even just a few bits of help, really need to get it fixed.

that "buzzing sound' might be your fuel pump. (round canister with fuel lines either side) . My old zeal made a buzzing noise on start up which was the fuel pump.

check your spark plugs (have they being changed before?) they could be in need of replacement - CR8E is the plug. You can remove them without to much hassle to check. Give you battery a charge as well.

After that you could also check your fuel lines , tank , carbs etc for crap in em.

Will it start without the choke? , have you tried opening the throttle just slightly on start up etc?

sometimes the buzz can be a bad contact to the battery
Most CDI systems dont care about the battery
what happens if you crash start it

most systems have a high/low set of windings to charge the batterys
the CDIs have two to charge the condenser and one to trigger

Hi Madmax and Jeaves, thank you very much for the advice, my bike is being fixed at the moment. The problem is the voltage regulator, and it has drained my battery so will be getting a new battery as well.
I will keep the advice in mind, sounds like i may require a new fuel pump and spark plugs down the track.
