Is anyone able to update me on the condition of the Napier Taihape Road.
When we were through in the Cage in December work was progressing on sealing an extra 22 kms on the Taihape side.
I am wondering if any one knows what progress has been made since?

Try getting in touch with Fulton Hogan as they are the 1's working on our roads and they should be able to give you an update on what the road is like and how much work they have done on it. Or you could try contacting the Police from up that way seen that they are the 1's that man it most days hoping to up there quota for the day. You can only try.

Shafty has given a pretty good desciption of the current state. Bad ruts on the Hastings side after the Annie then smooths out before the seal. Quite smooth going after the seal from the Taihape end until get to the tigher bits then its quite rough where the contractors are doing there stuff and expect delays in parts of it.

Yep

Was up at Timahunga St not long ago and the road works are in full swing.

No seal....... Yet!

About 11kms gravel this side of Kuri and abot 30kms the other.

I'd ride my C50T through ....... carefully!

Just gotta keep the speed down and ya wits about you or take your chances with the Gravel Gods.

Your choice.

Will be an awesome riding road once it's sealed.... cant wait

The thinner they're spread the better. I think they're busy enough with the SH1&2 at either end.

What's the cellphone coverage like and how far away are the ambo's.

Celly coverage = Not very good for most of the road

Ambos = A very long way away, they will send the chopper.

Thats if you can get to a phone..... not many people live along this road at present.

Don't bet on it

I guess the reason for me saying is when i went through there was still rather a lot of it and while there was some work beign done on the second section there was little on the first 10 or so clicks of the second section and no sign of work on the first set.

I heard that the section west of Gentle Annie will be sealed this year and the section east of Kuripaponga will be sealed next year.

From what I saw they seem to be on track to complete in this time scale.

Hope its done in time for Cold Kiwi in Sept.

In April I asked about this road and progress with sealing.
With Summer break almost upon us can any tell me how much progress has been made?
Cheers

Doubt there would've been any change on that road - still bout 20-30 km of shingle and ruts etc

Haven't been up there for quite awhile, so don't know. You do know that TANZ (was Transit) have taken over responsibility from Hastings DC, so sealing the remainder will be on the agenda.
