Crashed yesterday, upcoming winter

Yesterday i rode out to gulf harbour unfortunately in the bad weather, when i entered the roundabout at Manly i had a low side. What i know i did wrong was being 50 meters away from a Cage before the roundabout and thinking she was waiting for me:doh:. So i accelerated to 70kph and coming halfway through the roundabout i switched down gears:doh: and the back wheel locked up. My Honda Cb125 slid underneath me and carried on for 5 meters, and whilst i was thrown 10 meters into a curb, i flipped and ended up in a bush.
The right side mirror and indicator are damaged, now i know to not ride in a heavy storm:nono: and most likely wont be riding much as the full hit of winter is creeping up.
To all will you be riding as frequent as you do in this upcoming cold season, or will you brave the elements? :niceone:

Hell yeah. 34km a day commute unless it's snowing. Riding in shit weather can be a real buzz as long as you have adequate wet weather gear for the trip. I quite often find myself laughing away to myself as the rain pelts down on my visor.
You've just got to adjust for the wet road and less visibility and it's all good. (Bet I bin it on the next wet day now that I've said that.)

Sorry to hear about your off. Don't give up though - riding in the wet takes some getting used to but keep at it and you'll be fine. Just remember to ride to the conditions, and keep an eye out for paint and other slippery things on the surface...

Dude, you live norf of Dorkland ! There IS no cold season.

HTFU. It's only water. If you are worried that you'll leak, you can do as the old skool bikers did and waterproof y'self with beeswax and borax.

100litres of turpentine, 20kg of beeswax, 10kg of borax. Heat the turpentine till it smokes (if it catches fire, you've got it a tad hot). Dissolve the beeswax and borax, and immerse yourself promptly. Wait till a thin film forms on the surface, climb out drip slowly and scrape down. You'll be waterproof for life.

Glad you got off lightly. The wet is the best time to demonstrate (after practice) smooth manouevres. When you change gear you need to increase the engine speed before fully releasing the clutch. You should do this in the wet as well as in the dry. The wet is also especially good for demonstrating your ability to brake smoothly.

I have a 24km ride to work and when my gear isn't leaking I can get quite sumg under my helmet knowing I'm all dry and cosey underneath.
I do adjust my speed, breaking distance and cornering in the rain.

Na - still be riding - too nice down here not too, but will just be avoiding the wet days and if caught in the rain, just taking it easy.

'Come on, go visit your bike shop or Cycletreads and get a cheap as water proof jacket and pants and you will fine. Oh, and get one of those neck warmer things - so snug.

Riding in the wet can be fun if you adjust your riding style to suit - light on the brakes, easy on letting the clutch out on gearing down - give massive room to stop and trust nobody!!!

today in nth cant. and into the Lewis it was northerly and around 20deg C...warm as!! Traction and road cond. were excellent and even heading into a blustery 30 to 50kmh head wind was ok. The ride back to ChCh with a tail wind was farkin great! :shifty:
