Did a search and read a few threads. I have enough cash at Present to get a Jacket OR Pants.... Would I be Better to get a good jacket and wear heavy jeans or go for a decent pair of pants and hold off on the Jacket?

I have a good Nitro Helmet, decent gloves.... but lately been riding with a Fake leather Jacket and Jeans....Its all city commuting

Are jean any protection at all?

Ok, I just bit the bullet and ordered these... seem to have good reviews and since I cant afford full leathers I think it will give me a little piece of mind while riding.... choose red as it is more visible than the black jackets....

get a jacket first. You must keep your upper body warm

Definitely Jacket first - Jeans are ok - until you can save some for pants.

Occassionally I ride in Jeans, but depends on distance and speed. However, I would never be without a jacket or gloves.....

Happy buying:niceone:

My gear from 1 tonne arrived today... Pants and Jacket. Good quality and happy with them. Do you guys wear protective pants EVERY time you ride? never just jeans?

theres a saying ATGATT - All the gear all the time.

Personally i'll never go out with out at least Helmet, jacket, gloves. I'll wear jeans and normal shoes. But this is only on rear occasions and only small distances.

better to be safe than sorry eh?

My boots and pants saved my knees and feet when i had an accident on my 5 min ride to school once.

atgatt is the *correct* thing to do

However, there will be times when it's just too hot/much of a hassle/pain in the bum/short a distance etc... Your call.

Riding sensibly is far more important. Lots of people just jump on the atgatt crusade and then ride like dicks which just defeats the purpose.

There is a psychological factor to this: if you feel like you're well protected and safe, you are more likely to take risks, and conversely, if you feel vulnerable, you're more likely to take extra care.
Of course, this doesn't allow for the situations where you're being very careful, and some other dick isn't and collides with you (or causes you to crash), or you're riding carefully and 'unforseen circumstances' (such as a diesel spill or something coming off a trailer) cause you to crash.
At least wearing ATGATT allows you a greater chance of surviving unforseen circumstances.

As standard, I will always wear my jacket (Race leather) a back protector, boots, gloves & helmet with jeans or whatever on my lower half (a bit naughty, i know) and if I am doing a longish ride or going to be going quite quickly through some twisties or something I will wear full leathers and gloves, boots, back protector and helmet.

No, this is a piece that straps onto your waist and over your shoulders so that if you crash and land on your back or suck, any impact is spread over a wide surface area to minimise spinal damage. You can actually get ones that also cover your cheast area now too, Quasimoto sells them.

The Panel in the back of the Jacket is Tempura Foam, it will offer you the protection of a cheeses sandwich, and thats with any brand, as above you need a proper after market Back Protector, like KNOX, you can get cheap ones to ie $100 but they are not tested or certified in anyway and are also bulky.

happy to offer advise in this department
