Ok. I watched that. Probably not the most sensible thing to watch just before supper. However, that is world culture shown in the extreme.
Actually I feel a bit sick to be fair.
This is an example of people living their culture outside of the influences that have moderated our lives. Completely revolting to see out of context like that, but it happens. There needs to be a bigger understanding of other cultures, and maybe, just maybe, a little bit of gentle guidance given to them to conform to our "acceptable" norms.
These people live their lives outside of what we consider to be acceptable, we dont push people into flames for their beliefs.
"Acceptable" norms is open for a huge debate, bearing in mind we have a culture here in NZ of bashing our innocent babies into the next world with frightening regularity.

Something just doesn't seem right in that video. You don't sit apathetically on a bon-fire. People jumping to certain death from high-rise buildings to avoid getting burned alive is not an uncommon occurance. Either they were drugged in advance or something's pretty weird.
Nonetheless it's just another example of how ignorance and superstition breeds misery.
Oh and as for Europe - we need look no further back than 65 years to remember what is most likely the greatest atrocity in modern history.

Indeed, it may simply be that the stake technology may not have made it into those reaches of dark Africa yet.
Or perhaps the ancient art of staking has been forgotten - just like the technology of water-proof mortar was lost for several centuries following the fall of Rome.

Come on, witch burning is a white guy thing isn't it? Ye Olde England and all that. Where did they learn to burn witches? Play soccer, cricket? It's all the damn Poms' fault.
Savages come in all colours (blue included) and they've been around for centuries, why are people so shocked? It's human nature. Conquest requires barbarism and to stamp out witches we need to build great stocks of firewood. (And ducks.)

Don't think it's left Western society, either, the Dark Ages are still here...
That's what the do-gooding missionaries that like bringing the bible to these people to replace their witchcraft/black magic with were also thinking.
Except in order to be accepted, the Missionaries allowed the local customs and beliefs to remain, they just "incorporated" most of them into the church. Not to mention many Missionary ministers liked a good supply of sex and slaves to keep themselves in comfort...

I can't see how anyone is surprised by this. We live in a babaric world, that has not really changed in the last 2-3000 years. Incas sacrificing 100's of 1000's of young people, romans and christians sacrificing and killing, every age of history is littered with behaviour such as this. For recent behaviour research Rwanda, Dafur, Croatia, Sierra Leone, Afganistan, Timor, recently Iran/Saudi/Israel, and even this year in Mexico or Columbia.
Takes a very special person to get off their butt and go to any of these places to try and make a difference (not that they can change entrenched behaviour, but they can ease someone's suffering)

Easily explained. Prior to the short video clip, they more than likely endured hours of beatings and torture. By the time they decided to burn them, they were probably so close to death, they just couldn't resist.

Nothing to do with God mate, Most Africans especially in areas that are still very tribal are VERY VERY supersticious. They probably thought that those 'witches' (which they could have been, satanism and witchcraft is still rife in Africa along with human sacrifice etc.) had bought some abd luck or calamity down on them. (Again, they may well have put a curse or such on some people, but who knows).
